    Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone know's of any places on the net where I could store some files, while I restore my laptop. Ideally it would be free.

It's just that I have a lot of video and music files that i can't fit onto my portable hdd

    Cheers in advance

What's the total size? I imagine quite large if you have video. Might be less hassle to just but a larger external. If you can't fit what you have currently on your laptop you should consider getting a larger external anyway as you have no backup for the extraneous stuff.

I think Google drive gives you 5gb but that's probably nowhere near the capacity you require.

I am assuming you have a fairly large amount of files to store?
glidesociety do about 30 gig which is the most I have seen for free although I've never used them.

You'd want to have a seriously fast upload (and download) as well as a pretty high CAP on your broadband as well depending on the amount you need to store.

Being honest, getting or borrowing an external HDD will probably save you a lot of time and effort.

I wouldn't go down that route if I were you.
You said you can't fit them in your hard drive so I'm guessing there's 100s of GBs of data.
Most cloud storage services only offers from 5 to 25GB free which is nothing in terms of backing up laptops.

Say if you were to buy 1 month 500GB storage or something, assuming you have average broadband speeds, it will take youuuu roughly 560 hours to upload 500GB of data at 2Mb/s. That's just under a month! Another problem is that eircom's monthly cap WITH unlimited is 250GB and UPC is 500GB and you will go over that.

You'd be much better off borrowing a hard drive from a friend or buying one. 70 quid should get you 1TB nowadays (Correct me if I'm wrong)

If it's not 100s of gigabytes you can just use them all, 25gb here and there you could probably get up to 100gb for free. It would be awkward though, google seem reasonable enough for their paid service.

If you are going to restore such large data be aware that it may take quite a while to restore it from an internet storage provider.

Have UPC and its pretty fast...

Yeah will probably buy a new HDD, but where on earth are you getting a TB for €70...the cheapest I've seen is €90 for 500GB:eek:

Depends on what UPC Package you have.
UPC Down goes up to a maximum of 150 Mb however UPC upload speeds run at a maximum of 10 Mb (on the 150 package)
It's gonna take some time to upload a few hundred gigabytes.

You can get a two terra drive here for less than a hundred quid. You'd probably get a one terra elsewhere for around 70:

Even if you have UPC's 10Mb up line, 500GB would take you around 5 days non stop

€90 for 500GB?? Where's that? Try buying online, you'll get a better deal than most rip off stores in Ireland

The other thing to bear in mind with cloud storage is the size limit on the individual files. These limits are not video file friendly.
