Is it worthwhile putting carbon forks on my bike? (Giant Defy 4)

I cycle a Giant Defy 4 (2010) model in the link below:

I was given a quote of €180 for Carbon forks for it but I was told I would be better off trading it in and upgrading. Now the bike is fine for me, it does need the gears serviced though, new break pads etc and yes I would like to upgrade but I can't imagine trading it in and getting a much better bike for a further €180.

Has anyone else been in a similar position that could give advise, will carbon forks make a worthwhile difference for €180

Swap for a bigger tyre. I have on my tourer and it makes a huge difference without effecting performance

If 180 is as much as your willing to spend on upgrading then I wouldn't bother and just make do with what you have. changing the forks wont make any noticeable difference to performance and unless you ride on extremely rough roads then carbon forks probably won't make any much difference to comfort either.

Did whoever give you that quote know that it's got a tapered headset? It's not a straightforward change as it doesn't take a standard fork. I got a quote for the same thing from a Giant dealer who for some reason assumed that a generic fork will fit

I've no idea, it was a Giant dealer though. I will be calling in Saturday so I can ask them then.

Did you get the forks changed in the end or was it even possible?

Hmmm, bought a full carbon fork from one of those Chinese ebay dealers. £50 including postage. Very comfortable, 350 grams, looks the business, solid enough. Love it at 50 quid but no way i'd pay 180 for one.

Second this, a good set of wheels is a much better option then the fork for an upgrade.

I didn't as it would have been too expensive. What would you like to improve on your bike? Do you want to reduce vibration or just make it lighter?

Both to be honest, more so make it lighter though as it is quite heavy for a racer. I think I'll just leave it as it is though after reading the advice on here, then when I have more money just trade it in for an upgrade.
