Spill Over from the North

I'm sorry - can i get some clarity please? I had assumed that any spill over from the north could be picked up on a freeview hd box (a box that will do everything on one box)

but i came across this which confused me...from goingdigital ...

    7. I live near Northern Ireland. Will I still get BBC1, BBC2, UTV and Channel 4 for free?

If you live near the border with Northern Ireland you might be receiving BBC1, BBC2, UTV and Channel 4 from Northern Ireland over an aerial. This is called overspill. The UK is also moving to digital TV and is switching off the old transmitters towards the end of 2012. If you are in an overspill area you may be able to receive some of the UK digital channels using your SAORVIEW approved set-top box or television.

You will not be able to receive the UK HD channels with a saorview set top box or TV. To receive UK HD services you will need a UK Freeview (HD) box or TV set. A UK Freeview (HD) box will allow you to access the SAORVIEW services also.

What channels will you be able to pick up on a Soarview box - its for my granny and I don't think she would be too concerned about HD.

A Saorview box will pick up Freeview SD channels, (i.e. everything pretty much) if you have a NI signal. If you now have a NI analogue signal you should be fine when the power is boosted. The only issue for grannys, discussed in a thread below, is the channel ordering. A Saorview box will probably put the Irish channels first whereas a Freeview HD box will have these after all of the UK channels.

Thanks for reply - she get OK signal at moment - but an external aerial will help...i assume there are boxes that you can reorder channels?
