European Tour in a few years

With more and more of the top players playing across the pond what effect will this have on the european events on the european tour?

Seems like each year we lose an event or the prize is so small none of the top players are playing.

Only for SA, Asia and Middle East the tour would be a few months.

The R2D doesn't seem to be the answer to keep the lads as they have the WGC and Majors to win enough that they can play in it and just appear the top events in europe to reach the numbers to be eligible for R2D.

This will have an effect on the ryder cup standings as if your not in wgc and majors looks like you have very little chance of making the ryder cup team.

What will the tour be like in 2/3 years time

Much the same as it is now, a poor relation to the PGA tour. Any top European tour player will move over to the US and the europeans that play on the PGA tour will just come back for the big events or their own home country tournaments. Its all about money and the US is where the money is...

As the song goes it's all about the money, money, money!

The prize money in Europe seems to be getting smaller and smaller where as you probably finish 9th or 10th in a PGA tournament and collect more than you would for winning a European event.

Quite a few of the European events seem to rely for some of their sponsorship on local tourism bodies and with public sector budgets under pressure all across Europe, this money is fast drying up, especially in countries like Spain, Portugal and Italy.

However, isn't it going to get harder for European pros to get into the PGA Tour from next year? I think that's why Shane Lowry was giving the US Tour School a shot in 2012.

From next year there is no qualifying school on the PGA tour the only way on is thru the Nationwide tour so you have to play that for a year or be in the worlds top 50 to get in. Think the European/World tour will turn in to more of a world tour with only 10 or 12 events actually in Europe in the future.

I think the changes to the US Tour might help the European Tour in a way. Could see a lot of players heading to Europe to play top level events rather then spend a year on the Web.com Tour.

At least by playing in Europe you would have a chance of qualifying for majors etc you wont get that opportunity (apart from playing qualifying) playing on the 2nd Tier Tour in the US.

However in the long run we would probably continue to lose the guys that really succeed to the PGA Tour.

Can hardly blame them, big cheques, great weather, every whim catered for

It's been said before - and who can blame them - golfers will where the big money and majors are which is the US, European tour will turn into - or is it already? - a feeder tour.
