Anyone know much about this course? A friend was thinking of taking up the game and I recommended starting on a cheaper course. Also, if I get hit with the full whack next year in my own course I might try this place instead. I only get to play about once a month and don't fancy paying €100 per round.

    Bring a few spare balls..
while its not difficult, there is a surprising amount of water around. but good genuine decent value for money, golf.

I find the course one of the toughest in Waterford. The dykes and water are so annoyingly well placed on the course that it makes it such a difficult course. It is pretty long in that you often have to lay up in front of many obstacles

Also avoid in the winter or after period of rain as their drainage can be poor and bring plenty of golf balls. Some nice holes there and it can be very cheap (15 midweek or a tenner if your a student or on the dole)

Williamstown is in fine condition at the moment and is a very good test of golf, the drainage has improved in the last couple of years with the filling in of some of the dykes, the bunkers to be fair are not the best but i could say that about some of the other clubs around here.Greenfees at the moment are €13 which is really good value seven days a week and i think a tenner for unemployed and oap's,tell your friend to go up and enjoy himself and while your at it play a few games yourself as they are seemingly trying to bring out a very competitive rate for membership next year.

Cheers guys, sounds very positive. I'm just going to take him out for 9 holes in Tramore this weekend as it's handy for us and I'm a member there at present. I'll give the municipal a go as well before the end of the year. As I say, I could end up there myself as well!

No offence to anyone but i think its the worst course in the county!

Waterford, Waterford castle, faithlegg, dungarvan, west waterford, gold coast, tramore.........

I could go on but these are all good courses and williamstown does not compare to any of them in my opinion.

I'm not doubting you but it is the best value for someone starting out. Membership in the 3 waterford clubs is bordering on €1000 while in the municipal is under 500. He could get bored with the game after a few months in fairness

Yeah membership wise its the best option or he could join somewhere like mountain view for €150 and play cheap opens and that.

Tough track to be fair but certainly good value at 13e & to be fair the greens are always in good condition also.If your in waterford have a trip up to mountain view its only 150e to join & a 10er everytime you play with a loyality card play 6 get 7th free plus u get your gui card.Thats what myself & 3 mates did in march and we're all tramore men

If Tramore is your nearest course why not let him play out on the nine hole course for €10 they had a deal this year without gui handicap from March to November for €300,and you wont be disappointed with Williamstown either i promise.

Started off there myself a few months back. Eventually made it out to Tramore. Williamstown is a tough slog but seems to be in better condition than it was a few years back as I played on and off several years ago, once every few months maybe. Drainage works are ongoing and seem to make a major difference.

Front nine is tricky, back 9 is long and straight! Great value for money especially if you are starting out. Greens are always in good condition.
