Sky doesn't like any other operator having exclusives, especially with HD content. I would expect them to make moves soon to have these available.

I asked RTE News Now on twitter if they had any plans for SKY platform, They replied :

"Hi there, there are no plans for News Now on Sky at the moment"

    Cheers.

Doesnt mean Sky have to take them though.
They can't charge for the HD content either.
Hopefully they learned that lesson last time around.

S4C's HD channel went on Freeview HD back in 2010.

It never made it onto either Sky or Virgin Media Cable in Wales.

S4C is now due to close its HD service on the 30 November.

Sky here in Ireland seem to be very slow in coming to an agreement to provide more channels on the platform. UPC will now have Setanta HD, RTE News now, RTE One +1, RTE Jr, TG4 HD, Oireachtas TV, RTE Player and the TV3 Player (plus all the RTE Digital radio channels). What's the betting that TV3 HD when it does launch will also be exclusive to UPC.

UPC should really make hay with this fact and sky should to take more of an interest in its Irish subscribers and provide a service to rival UPC.

I would expect that the RTE Player and maybe TV3 player will appear on Sky when they launch Sky Broadband and the new On Demand service, which replaces Sky Anytime, in ROI later this month.

I asked on the sky forum the answer
We are not aware of this being a channel that will launch onto our platform. When any new products/services are launched, we will let you know on the forum or through our Latest News page or on our Latest Help and Support Issues page.

Just off the phone to sky about other issues with my account, I was talking to three different departments and I said i'd ask them about TG4 HD and RTE NN. All three were not aware of the fact UPC now had the channels and all three just started attacking UPC's pices/packages... one said when Sky BB becomes available in Ireland it will be open warfare between the two as they were "stealing" sky customers :).... I suppose it can only be good for us customers.

I'll be sticking with UPC for broadband, and Sky/Saorview/Freesat for TV. Everybody is a winner. Except my wallet. :(
