So im finally getting a filling that has been annoying me for ages replaced. Im getting it replaced because you can kind of see it when i smile, anyway I was wondering how worried I should be about the exposure to mercury when the amalgam is being removed?

Is it a real issue or is it just nonsense?

    Thanks guys

Its nonsense really. The person with the biggest exposure is the dentist removing them. You will find people that want to give you drugs to "chelate" the mercury in your blood and they will charge you extra for the privilege. However the science and research shows that amalgam filling are perfectly safe.

If it was a real issue then we would do something about it. millions of amalgam fillings are done every year with no evidence of problems.
