Its a pay cut, Ill lose my xmas bonus too thats coming to me and I will lose the chance to get my PR (which I could apply for in 8 months if I stayed in this job).

BUTTT .... its what I wanna do. I would love to be a racing trader. Its my dream job. Decisons decisions !!!!

    It's your dream job?

If you haven't got kids then you have to do it.

    Job happiness is essential imho.

    It's quite simple :
Is your dream job worth the pay cut ?

Can you afford to take a pay cut ?

If you answer yes to both of the above then go for it !*

    * Disclaimer - dont blame me if it goes tits up :pac:

    Hi Dave,

Which firm offered you the job? I'll be graduating this summer (Finance and Accounting degree) and would LOVE to be a horse racing trader. Can you give me any info on where the job was advertised, what they asked in the interview and any other details you may have, it would be much appreciated. You could keep the job in melbourne

    Thanks

    Had my interview last Friday.

I thought it went extremely well (was an hour long).

Spoke about all types of racing and sports, my background in racing & sports, employment history etc.

My friend who works in another dept in the company was told by his boss that the racing guys were very impressed with me.

Will find out by Friday if I got the job or not. It’s a 7k pay cut which is fairly hefty, considering that’s also minus the LAFHA from this month on too but I think I gotta do this.....even just for a while to get it on my CV so I can go for another role in the industry.

Will tell you the company name etc once I know whether I have the role or not.

Thanks for the advice on here guys. If you're ever in Melbourne I will meet ya for a drink and a flutter : )

Fair play Dave, I hope you get it and if you do take it.. :)

Did they look for any particular skills or qualifications, would love a change of career and something like that would appeal.

I am good at maths and was a reinsurance underwriter for two years and that is all about taking risks and reducing your exposures.

You've no chance Huckle because you're from Blanch.
That looks bad on the CV :D

    Got the offer today :)

Only 2k paycut which was sound of them. They told me otherwise in the interview. Must have been happy with me.

Dunno when I start. They have to transfer my visa over and other paperwork too.

I have only worked in investment banks so I related risk, attention to detail and markets into the interview.

But mostly my enthusiasm for the role and the sport is the reason I got it I reckon.

Night in watching Happy Valley with a notepad I think tonight :)
