What is the exact model? Something like Dimension XYZ or Insprion ZYX..
    Worth trying to reseat everything.

No model no or reference, It's a compact model using laptop drive, SATA model, CRT screen. Guess about 6 years old. Sounds like graphics problem which is on board. It doesn't take AGP graphics.

Did you do a hardware change or driver update recently? or did you maybe move the computer? Change any settings in the Bios?

Usually a solid amber light means hardware failure. In this case your Video card is indicated.

Turn it off and try push home the video card (gently) to see if it's just a bit loose. Might as well do all the other cards as well (Ram etc) and see if it boots ok. If not than maybe you can try a different Graphics card? Or maybe there is an integrated card that you can fall back on if you think the dedicated card is the issue?

If you are using just integrated graphics on the motherboard and that's what's causing the problem than it may be FUBAR and require the installation of a dedicated graphics card. If so try borrowing the Graphics card from another system and see if it boots with that.
