Galaxy S Plus not charging

Something has gone wrong with the charging socket of my galaxy s plus. It is not charging when I connect it to the mains or to a usb socket on my laptop...so its definitely the charging socket itself. However if I turn the phone off and insert the charging lead into the socket it turns the phone on..instead of applying a charge it causes the phone to turn on.

Does anyone know if it is possible to somehow charge the battery without using the phone? I need the phone over the next few days so I cant afford to leave it in to get fixed which could take god knows how long.

Did you try another cable yet ?
Failing that, won't help you in the coming days but you can get docks (at least for the original S) that will charge an extra battery, you could use this option to charge your battery while having the phone off or get another battery and swap them around when needs be. Use one, charge one.

Have you looked at the usb socket on the phone?

My one got bent out of shape before and it casued similar issues. I re-alligned it (yay for paperclips!) and it was back to normal.

    Hope this helps!

Actually something similar happened to mine yesterday, all of a sudden neither the car charger, usb cable or mains charger seemed to do anything.

I gently* tapped the phone a few times and then pushed the charger in fairly forcefully and hey presto it started charging again.

    * and by gently I mean walloped it off my hand

Common issue on Samsung built devices, first up give it a clean, i used a small brush thats designed for cleaning out a hair trimmer, sorted the issue straight away, and as said before if that doesnt work try see if any of the terminals are bent out of shape and use a toothpick to fix it.

On some other Samsung phones, turning the phone off, taking out the battery plugging the phone in , then re-installing the battery seems to work, this is more for cases where the above hasnt helped.

Failing all that you have a faulty USB board which will need to be replaced ;)

Just as an update, by phone now seems to charge fine from mains, usb &
car ... however now I am sporacicially getting "Battery fully charged. Unplug charger" notification even though the charger is not plugged in.
