On JSA, possibility of 1 days work per week...

    I am currently on JSA

Through word-of-mouth etc. I have been asked by some people if i'd do what would equate to 1 day of work per week freelance.

It would be a case of me doing work for them (not an employee) and getting paid via cheque on the weekly basis for the 1 days work. Remember, I would not be employed by them, it would be total 'casual work'

What is the procedure here? Do I go into the Social Welfare Office and tell them this, and they will deduct 1 days work (out of the 5) from my JSA?

    Would there by any implications?

you answered your own question.... you do exactly what you said as in go to welfare tell them you have work for one day they can do one of two things
either set you up on dockets for casual work or if its not a permanent set up then they will ask you to get a letter from your employer telling them when and how much you worked so that it will then be deducted from your means assessment and the balance will be paid to you...instead of the letter they may just ask for a copy of the cheque but your better going in and letting them know either way

however if your not a paye worker then you need to set yourself up as self employed so you can pay tax on the amount you will be earning for that one day, im sure others can post more info on this for you as i dont know the ins and outs of it tbh

Op if you do this then I suggest you get he company to set you up as a paye worker as the hassle involved to set yourself up as self employed and the mess it may make of your jsa (which you may or may not be entitled to due to being self employed) is not worth it IMO so although we all need to take work when its offered the company need to work with you so that you are not worse off financially for doing this and a paye employee is a better option for you and really not a big deal for them to do tbh

best of luck with it all and hope it all works out for you
