2008 A4 Gearbox Crisis

    OH has a 08 A4, facelifted model. 2.0 TDI 140bhp, 6 speed manual

Flywheel was replaced as it was groaning under acceleration then discovered that here was wear in the gearbox too and that needed replacing too.

Sourced a second hand gearbox from a breaker using the "supposed right engine code" (CAG) but ended up being the wrong one (discovered driving home from the garage). 5th and 6th gears not recognised by the OBC, cruise control not working in 5th and 6th gears and ratios way out of the original.

Breaker will take back the gearbox, but now garage says that they can't put the original gearbox back in (due to some cog I think?!?).

I think this is a common problem and Audi have a fix which involves replacing a shaft, bearing and 1st gear...but seeing as we can't put the original back in that's a problem.

Can anyone advise of the best option here from experience?
Have tried around for the right gearbox but nobody seems to have this. Is UK a realistic option for bringing in a gearbox?

I'm just glad it's not my car or I'd be raging!!:mad::mad:

The car will also have a gearbox code which should avoid sourcing the wrong one.
