I've a dear friend whose sister has cancer. I feel helpless. Is there any thing I can do to help her, her family? Can anyone suggest anything apart from just being there ? They are all worn out from the ongoing treatment with the last couple of years.
Has anyone some nice/kind suggestions please?

What about cooking some meals so that they don't have too. I remember when we were going through some tough times neighbours would make trays of sandwiches, pots of soup and send over cakes etc. these were really handy and a weight off my mothers shoulders as we would have a lot of people calling to the house as most people do when there has been bad news.

I used to like doing nice things on my good days (6 year oesopghageal cancer survivor tomorrow). I also know that my husband needed breaks when I was having treatment so going in some days so that her family does not have to would help. Apart from that listening would be great.

Making up freezer meals for them would be useful - if they have been out all day at a hospital then coming home to a meal is so welcoming - not necessarily all cakes /biscuits/sandwiches, because you can get sick of those but something filling and nutritious - stews, tagines, spagetti bol, soups, curries.

By the way, you sound like an amazing friend to have. :)
