    Hi all,
Cud anyone recommend companies tat manufacture and sell cow cubicles.
We are looking for 42. I have priced the local hardware stores but am curious to see if i can get them cheaper at the manufacturers.
Is there much of a difference between blue and brown cubicles, and what about the width as tey have quoted me different sizes and prices-is there a quality difference?
    Thanks:)

Brown band is not as strong as blue band iirc.

Not sure what you mean about widths. Is that the thickness of the steel or the width between the cubicles:confused:

Sorry, forgot to say we are in kerry.
Referring to the width I rang one crowd and they had the blue band. they had 1 1/2 inch for 26.50 and they had 3 inch at 40.00 euro. I presume the wider the better in terms of strength.

Aaah. Got you now:o. Yeah thicker the better, more steel, more strength. What type cubicle are you putting in? The 3" is the cantelever type? What part of kerry are you in? I have a few names from when i was putting in a few years ago

I mean this literally I wouldn't install the old newton rigg cubicles if I got them free. Steer well clear.

how come, is there trouble with them?.

If a cow is in any way iffy after calving or unwell in any way she'll get stuck in a newton rigg. Ask anyone who has them and any modern type of cubilcle the newer type of cubicle will fill first then the riggs. You are more likely to see a cow standing with her front feet on the slab chewing the cud waiting for another cubicle to free up than lying in the newton riggs. Don't buy them.

I totally agree with that, better off going for the newer type ones!!

cows are a million miles happier in loops than any leg type and even if they do get stuck a couple bolts off and the cow is free.dont work out that much dearer when you allow for clamps and pipes across the front

stay clear of three legged cubicles-had to cut more cows out of them and you end up losing both cow and cubicle

all condon candiliver cubicles now- the blue band(heavy in all sheds)
when putting up my new shed for 6month old heifers last year i even put in the heavy ones-have an old unit with the lighter ones and i find them very weak

cows seem really happy with them003ilp.jpg

Interesting reading alright, cubicle sizes seem huge though, single cubicle beds up to 10 foot deep and 50 inches wide. Can I ask what do people usually have here and what do you think the minimun width needs to be?

3 that i normally dealt with

    Brownes of castleisland 7141560

    kellihers of tralee 7123463

    Flahertys hardware ardfert 7134254

All used do a selection and had a good range in stock. Flahertys still do, was there yesterday. I have a few more smaller suppliers but they might be miles away from you. The other manufacturers would be a good option too as delivery would be included.

As to the type, i have the newton riggs in with years and never had to cut one out to release a cow. Maybe i am just lucky like that. A neighbour took out the cantelever ones and put in the newton rigg ones because he felt the cows teats were getting stood on more in those than the 3 leg ones, the bars stopping the cows legs from slipping/using the other cows spaces to stand up. Horses for courses i suppose.
Decide the width you want/need them at and work from there. Cow size and type and what you will expect to be milking for the next 20 years.

Best of luck with the building

€60 plus VAT was best quote I got for singles, but I am putting the poles down and running the bars along that the cubicles will be clamped to and not attaching straight to the wall (its a block wall so probably not solid enough to bolt directly on). Cant see that attaching to the wall should be any more expensive, if not a little cheaper due to alot less piping being needed. Ring any of the suppliers quoted earlier in the thred and you'll have a proper quote in a few seconds.
