Which Laptop is better ?

Which of these is a better laptop ?

Also does anyone know who makes better screens Sony or Samsung ?

The main difference between the 2 laptops from what I can see is size of the harddrives and the fact that the samsung laptop doesnt come with a full HD screen.

Can anyone really tell the difference between HD 1600x900 vs 1920x1080 Full HD screen on a laptop ?

    Absolutely. ;)

The Sony of course, 3rd generation Core i7, slightly faster GPU (though neither is really suitable for gaming if that's what you have in mind) and indeed the better display. Is it worth 420 yoyos more? Absolutely not.

Edit, just spotted the price for the Samsung is in Sterling, so the difference is only ~ €240, still quite substantial. You might get a better machine cheaper elsewhere.

Just checked amazon the price is EUR 977,25 when you add in the Irish tax rate.

What puts me off the Sony is that it doesnt have a terabyte harddrive.

Easily upgraded with an aftermarket replacement. Or fit a solid state disk (seen a Kingston 128 GB for 65 quid on Amazon) and use the old HDD in an enclosure as external storage.

Or have a look at the Voyager II:

    Full HD display
Core i7 3610QM (even faster than the 3612QM)
GT 630M (better than the HD 7650M)
    8GB RAM
    1 TB HDD

Win7 HP 64-bit (incl. OS installation disk)
    3 yrs warranty

£666 or €833 (delivery not included)

Also has a 2nd HDD bay if you want to add a SSD (they currently have a 128 GB SSD on special offer) or another 1 TB HDD. ;)

P.S. I don't think VAT will be applied on sales within the EU.

Or the Optimus IV, with the same configuration as above plus a Bluray combo drive it will cost £872 or €1.091. Still cheaper than the SONY and it comes with a GTX 660M.

    Thanks for the link.

    Is a voyager a good brand ?

I bought stuff from amazon UK before and they added in the Irish vat rate.

PC Specialist is reseller for Clevo laptops in the UK. No-frills laptops with excellent performance, you'll get exactly what you pay for and a decent warranty.

Here is a review for the W150ER, which is the 15" version of the Optimus IV.

What is the quality of there screens like ? to me not having a high quality screen is a deal breaker.

Haven't heard anything negative but you can choose a full HD display from AU Optronics with both models, which is even better.

Look up reviews for Sager or Schenker laptops, their systems are based on the same barebones provided by Clevo.

Go for a Custom laptop from PCspecialist.co.uk Their screens are made by LG. 1080p on a 15" superb quality. Also far better spec and easy to upgrade.

Current screen is LG. They change and improve them often so old reviews might not tell the full story. Go to their forums and look for recent reviews.
