From CIE to IR by Mark Darby....

.....Neil Higson and Paul Quinlan....Hey all.For anyone who liked the era when locos and rolling stock ruled the way i highly recommend this book "From CIE to IE-The Changing face of Irelands railways.The first 10 pages give a description and history of all the different locos used by Irish Rail.The following 100 or so pages are all photos with descriptions. Its all there from the A Class to the current 201s.Rolling stock covered too,From Cravens and Dutch Vans to MK3'S and MK4S.

Have that book myself,a fantastic pictorial record of when the railways here were interesting. Should be able to pick it up in Easons or any major book store.

Just did a seach and found it on Amazon, http://www.amazon.co.uk/CIE-IR-Changing-Irelands-Railways/dp/0711034761/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277406132&sr=1-1 but with exchange rates its about same price, Id have to see the book before I buy it, got caught out before with books only to find them not great.

It is absolutely worth it IMO, it's the only book on Irish Trains and Railways that I've felt has been worth buying, I've bought a few others but never been that impressed with them.

Thanks Cookie Monster, picked up the book today in Easons, lovely pictures, my favorite pic is on page 108 Im absolutely sure I was on that Sligo train, and a lovely picture on page 36 of a train of logs coming up from Sligo Quay, finding a book with the Sligo Quay Branch really won me over, Sligo Quay had it all, timber, oil, cement and molasses, now theres only weeds, Im ordering another pint.
