I need to travel to Tuscany at the end of the month for a few days. Flying into Pisa and hiring a car. Where would people recommend as the best place to stay between Florence Pisa or Lucca?

    Hi Neris,
What type of holiday are you into? Florence offers the most with so much art, history & architecture. Lucca is smaller with less to see & do, but is a lovely walled city. Pisa in my opinion is not worth visiting, unless you specifically want to see the leaning tower. Seeing as you have a car, then you could also think about going north along the coast to Cinque Terre (5 lovely coastal villlages) or around the Tuscan Hills & villages (San Gimingnano & Volterra) and the Chianti region too.

    JT.

thanks for the info. Its only for 3 days were going. Im only going down to look at somthing in a nearby town a bit north of Pisa which may take a day so dont want to be stuck in that place as there isnt much around

No need for a car if you are only going to Florence, it would take several days to see everything there and there is a bus direct to Pisa airport.

So if you are drving go to smaller places. Can I throw Siena in to the mix, maybe take in Volterra or San Gimignano en route?

just wanted to add that the little walled city of Lucca is probably one of the nicest places i've visited ever. we stayed in the hotel novecento in Pisa...fab little boutique hotel a few minutes walk from the tower.

    enjoy your little trip!:)

It has to be between Lucca and Florence. I would stay in lucca as it is a lovely place to be and hop on the train for the day into Florence(1 HOUR). i have been to both in summer, so i don't know how quite lucca would be this time of year.FYI Pisa is about 20min by train from lucca and trains are cheap
