Getting Wine in for Christmas (Sep/Oct special offers)

From my limited looking around, it seems fairly obvious that this is the time of the year to get your wine in for Christmas (there seem to be few/no special offers in late November and into December. This could be merged into the tesco 25% thread but there are obviously other stores out there

So once you get over the problem of how to avoid drinking it all on Thursday nights in November :D can people put up examples of specials worth seeking out?

Most of the stuff I’ve been picking up has been mentioned in the Tesco thread, in addition to which the Tesco selection Sancerre is always a decent pick when on special. Have also picked up the Tesco white burgundy on special, the missus doesn’t like Chardonnay so I’ll have this with a bit of fish some night probably.

As of Wednesday, Superquinn are having a big sale on French wine. Mostly half price including some if the expensive €25-30 bottles.

The big players as well as the independents should have plenty on offer Nov/Dec. I don't think there's of any real benefit buying ahead, for price purposes anyway, apart from to avoid the bedlum of the Christmas rush. Everyone's gearing up for the onslaught, although I would say get in before the budget. Wine is almost certainly going to take a hit.

I used to check that out when Superquinn were a national supermarket. I thought it went downhill, quality wise, towards the end.

A lot of their wines on offer are pretty meh.
The SQ Sancerre is one of the few I'd bother buying.
Usually better off going to the local wine shop.

When does the Superquinn sale end anyone?

I heard about some of the independents doing special offers when your buying case's, I know I spotted wholesale offers in the Galvins Carryout in Cork if that's any good to you. At least then you aren't restricted with product range, you could get anything, and pretty sure it can be a mixed case.
