Was a bit underwhelmed by the new episode. Five seasons in it seems we are no closer to knowing who red john is. Also the case of the week was boring as hell, couldnt have cared less about it.

That was teh ultimate *meh* opening episode to a series I think I've seen, it couldn't have been more clear cut that reason & guilty person either, getting very lazy, I'm guessing they'll get to 100 episodes and be done, being moved to Sunday doesn't help them either.

Sunday was number 95 so I'd guess they dont plan on stopping at 100.

I look at it as more of a weekly show than a continuous one these days. Most weeks are self contained meaning you dont really need to watch them in order once you dont jump across seasons.

Shame to see that the show is still on a bit of a downward lull...

The plot structure of each episode has started to become very formulaic. I really think the writers should inject more pace into the series. Rather than a drip feed of Red John's network of moles and spies, perhaps episodes in the nearby future could reveal the true identity of Red John, the consequences and the aftermath of this revelation and, eventually, seeing an even more sinister character filling the void left by the serial killer.

Currently, Season 2 stands out as the highlight of the show for me - enjoyable isolated, one-off episodes which still succeeded in developing the Red John story arc with a clever pace. Granted, each new season has it's own special moments (the San Joaquin Killer plot from Season 4 was particular impressive!) but I can't help notice the gradual loss of the show's original "sheen"...

Second episode was a huge improvement on the premiere. Found the ending so sad.
I wonder was there drugs in his tea?

How and when did Lorelei end up back in prison?

So could Volker or Kirkland be Red John?

The Mentalist is one of those shows that I watch during off-peak weeks. I loved the episode that trendy88 mentioned above, but the other have been pretty weak. Episode 100 (the flashback) is next on my list, so I'm kind of looking forward to that.

Season 5 finale out....i thought they had finished the Red John arc?, renewed for a 6th season.

The Mentalist season finales are usually the highlight of the whole season (big intricate setups with great revelations). The revelation was there, but the setup wasn't (you can safely skip to the last 5 minutes).

Needless to say, it was a great ending and should ramp up the RJ storyline for season 6 (rather than sidelining it to a footnote every 5 or 6 episodes).

    I'm sticking to my
    PJ = RJ
prediction (nothing here disproved it) :)

Edit: Actually I've been mulling it over since watching it this morning.

What if Red John is a
    sibling
of Patrick (that he doesn't know about)? Kind of makes sense, especially if it was implied that Red John has similar abilities to Patrick.

Damn, I wanted to post about this season but I see there are spoilers so I can't read any of the comments :P

I'm at episode 18...only a couple more to go before the finale! :D

    Just saw the finale there:
I was expecting a bit more like the season 4 finale, but still pretty good nonetheless. Had considered Kirkland myself but then thought it was too obvious

I think n they want you to think its Kirkland, maybe he just wants to be the one to catch RJ.

    The show is deadly

Season 6 has to reveal the identity of Red John. With only seven options they would be taking the piss if they don't. Red John is forgotten about too often for my liking.
