How many products are you planning to sell?

I would recommend to use WordPress and one of its free shopping cart plugins.

    Cost involved:

    1) hosting ~ €50/year
    2) domain .com ~ €10/year
    3) Wordpress free
    4) Wordpress premium theme ~ $50
    5) Shopping cart plugin free
    6) PayPal integration free
    7) PayPal fees ~ 3.4% on each sale
    8) Long term Management ~ free

This exclude Web development costs - if you can't manage to setup the above on your own. Quotes range from €500-€3000 (more or less) for an ecommerce website.

There you go! Best of luck

Havent tried this plugin, but if you dont fancy PayPal, you can connect directly to Realex.

I would also look into Shoppify. Yes workpress is great but Shoppify is specialist in giving you a great shop out of the box. Yes they take commission but as long as you are not selling low margin stuff u are ok

That assumption is not quite correct. There is significant user resistance to using PayPal.

One does not need a PayPal account to make payments through it.

A disadvantage of PayPal is that it does not accept Laser cards. Realex does but you pay around e30/month for up to 400 transactions (don't quote me on those figures). AFAIK you need a merchant account too.

For online shops I like OpenCart. It is powerful. Theming is good bit of work (WordPress is easier).

I checked OpenCart and it looks great but you it's a bit of work . I want a program that is easy to use....

With power comes complexity. A basic shopping cart will lack features.
For most day-to-day stuff it is easy to use.

Wordpress is great. Can be time consuming though if you want to get it perfect.

Alternatively, we can help you build the website you need. We offer free hosting and purchase your domain name.

If the main purpose of the website is to be a shop, then use an ecommerce application. We use WordPress every day for client sites, and do some e-shops with woocommerce and other plugins, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a website where the main focus is to sell online.

As good as WordPress ecommerce plugins are, a good stand-alone ecommerce application will always be better. By the same token, most ecommerce applications can't compare with WordPress for "regular" content functionality (web pages, blogs, etc.)

Have a look a Magento too. It's very easy to use in the backend, although isn't the fastest in the World.

Magento is amazing - great features. It's a pig to streamline or alter though. It's a resource hog that requires decent VPS/Cloud hosting with extensive server tweaks to get the best out of it.
