Strange Noise

Hi - Just thought maybe someone could help me here if they have seen this before.

Its very random but only started happening lately. When we flush toilet or use water afew minutes later there is a rumbling noise - sounds like its coming from the attic. Strange part is the noise seems almost electrial like a motor or a fan coming on but can be quite loud and then stops suddenly. Its just a gravity system and no pump involved so its very strange. I havent had a chance to go to the attic yet but strange part is that it doesnt always happen and i cant seem to make it happen.
Maybe it is vibration from the tank or overflow tank or something but i cant for the life of me figure what it could be. I will know more when i go to the attic (just waiting to get ladder back to head up there).
    Any ideas? Any help appreciated.

If it happens after the toilet is flushed it's possible the diaphragm in the fill valve on the toilet needs to be replaced. If it happens after just using taps then I would be looking at the ballcock in the attic.
