Was up at this mast today. 2 pictures. The UHF stack below the topmost UHF stack, faces southwest and probably provides the current nulled DTT output. Will the top stack provide omnidirectional coverage after 24th October?

The UHF TVA panels ? 12 bays x 4 direction perhaps. I am sure the North facing ones are OFF at present.

Looking forward to seeing the result on 24 October here in Bangor, Co Down.
Would it be safe (RF radiation wise) to stand on the platform just below the topmost transmitting array when the transmitter is powered up at 160kW?

It wouldnt be safe even when it not powered up. ok sorry couldnt resist that now you can get on with the thread.

    Yes

Will this help me in Howth? Getting analog but not SV at present. Will the rumoured power increase from 40kW to 160kW happen the same day?

I see the power is up already. I'm in Drogheda using a Triax TSC114 combo. This showed 40% when I last checked - its now @ 70%. :)

And you see this as confirmation of a (pointless at this time) increase in power from this site? The fact that your receiver shows a bigger number?

They have to seriously up the power at CC to fill a lot of gaps, north & south.

Time will tell if it proves adequate, even south of the border. Ignore the wannabe tx engineers here.

Be specific then rather than arsey. In your opinion how much more power does CC need to fill in the gaps?

Yes sir! Mr. 5 posts, right away sir ! Going to the planned ERP for planned coverage is what I was thinking i.e. meeting expectations. Who were you before you re-reg'd?

We have wannabe tx engineers here ? Are they the spice girl variety ?

Great I might actually learn something.

    Hi,

Are they testing CC to the North at the moment? Yesterday I managed to scan in all the Soarview channels and briefly had a signal (RTE News Now) that held - this moring again the signal picked it up briefly.

Interesting thing is I have previously had this occur but only when I had an roof aerial directed at CC for the analogue and that was sometime ago.

I recently took this down and the latest results are from my loft aerial aimed at Divis.

Position - west coast Isle of Man.

    Cheers

I would doubt it. Full power (160kw) is to be used on E52 which has RTE 1 analogue on it at the minute. The low power DTT service is currently on E53. Your reception may be due to weather conditions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭buggane

Thanks for that - must be a lift due to the weather as you say - weird its never happened before - roll on the 24th!

    Cheers

Well if its a 'lift' due to the weather its the best I have ever (indeed never) seen.

This morning pic was clear most of the time with strengths fluctuating from about 26% Quality up to 90% - and as I said before thats on the side of a loft aerial pointing at Divis - really think some testing must be going on (oh and its still CH53). Anyway we will see what CH52 brings.

    Cheers.

Up at CC mast again yesterday. Nothing much has changed it seems. Still have those stacks facing SW underneath the topmost ones. There were some people working up there too.

The 2nd Mux was much weaker at my location (Portaferry) the last few times it's been on over the last month, was originally slightly stronger than the Mux on 52.
Noticed it appeared to be back up in strength this afternoon when the telly upstairs (in kids playroom) had a "new channels found" message on it, it's only using an 8 element indoor attic RX for RTE.

    Mux 2, c56 is 3dbµv less than Mux 1, c52.
When I checked yesterday with my signal meter.

It wouldn't even lock on that TV the last few times it was on this month, though when it fired up for a few hours at the start of September it was reading 56% Strength and 100% quality on the same tv - actually higher than the Mux on 52 which has been more or less (apart from during the bonkers heatwave in July) at 50% Strength and 90% quality since this time last year. Will have a look tomorrow and compare the two.

Anyone ever had usable HD pictures from IOM Tx?
