    Hi,

Will be flying to Naples with Aer Lingus from Dublin airport this week.
I understand I can only check in online for the outbound flight.

Does anyone know what the story is with check-in coming back?
ie. does Aer Lingus have desks, terminals etc. in the European airports for coming back?

    You have 3 options
    1. Pay a tenner to pre book seats and you can check in for outward and return up to 30 days in advance
    2. Find wifi and a printer in Naples and check in for the return trip 30 hours before hand and print the boarding card
    3. Go to the airport and check in at the Aer Lingus check-in desk. Its most likely to be the local agent but will have the Aer Lingus sign and the information screens will tell you which area to check in

+1 You will be able to check-in the old-fashioned way at a desk in the airport if you don't manage the hi-tech method.

That won't work for Naples, the OP will have to check-in at the airport the old fashioned way - unless they want to pay for a seat.

    Web Check-in

You can use Web Check-in if you are between 30 hours and 2 hours before your scheduled departure time.
Web check-in is for travel from Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Belfast, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Web check-in for travel from New York (JFK), Boston and Chicago is available from 24 hours in advance up to 2 hours before your scheduled departure time.
Passengers travelling from the USA with Web boarding passes must present themselves at the dedicated Web check-in counter at the airport at least 45 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time. Passengers who check in online are advised to allow sufficient time to check baggage and proceed through security checkpoints. The time necessary for security and document checks may vary by airport, day, and time. Aer Lingus advise all passengers to be at the boarding gate at the latest 30 minutes prior to departure. Passengers arriving late to the boarding gate will not be accepted for travel.
Web check-in for travel from all other airports is available from 30 hours in advance (24 hours in advance to/from USA) up to 4hours and 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
If you are between 30 hours and 2 hours before your scheduled departure time and want to check-in use visit our section now to do so.

Incredibly annoying when you're in Europe and this happens. Why cant they be like easy jet or ryanair ffs? Even the terminals at Dublin and Heathrow are annoying, so much easier when you have the boarding passes in hand.

You're best bet is the hotel reception. Find out their email address and send the boarding pass to them, assuming you're phone has wifi capability. If you're a guest they're fairly accomodating. I flew to Dublin from Zurich a month ago and did this.

That's a bit confusing - I used it fine from Faro in June. Maybe it worked because I used web check in on the initial journey form Dublin.

That's just a case of Aer Lingus managing their website badly. The list at the bottom of this page is different (though not necessarily correct).

VERY hidden in what SchemingBohemia said is what you need to know when travelling from abroad TO Ireland
Web check-in for travel from all other airports is available from 30 hours in advance (24 hours in advance to/from USA) up to 4hours and 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

When departing from Ireland you have free checkin for 30hours before the flight till 2 hours before departure and when departing from abroad its a deadline of 4h30min.

Still, if you miss that or cant get to a printer you still can check in the traditional way COMPLETELY AT NO COST, i.e. free of charge, i.e. not leaving you out of pocket.

I think its brilliant that aerlingus still have this option for FREE.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I just came back from Bordeaux last week and hadn't realised that, but as you say checking in at the airport is free (and there was no queue when we checked in) but if you were cutting it fine it would be handier to have already checked in.

There is also the option to check in online and assign yourself seats (handy for a group or family). If you have no printer, just go to the desk at the airport and collect the boarding cards there.

It just ensures you all sit together, even if you are at the back of the queue.
