    Hello lads and lassies,

Just got an invite from a Nephew of mine to go Hunting Deer next Saturday I'am meeting at his house for 4pm,The reason I'am posting this is I would have hunted Deer with his Dad over 35 years ago when he was very young I am only delighted with the invite it will bring back a load of old memories of years ago although I have a Shotgun and .22 Rifle and go Rough shooting I think this could be an excuse to start adding to my collection.

I know I will come back on a high if we get off a shot or not will be nice to see if the way of Hunting a Deer has changed in the years I would have been only 18 or so back then. will let you know how I get on I'am like an oul one here woundering what to wear will I bring wellies or Boots with shin protection what type jacket;) he is telling me just my own hunting gear any tips lads as I don't want to be too warm or too cold. When we hunted years ago Jesus I sound like an Oul fella and I am:D

I would wear a dark jacket and trousers wax proof and lined inside for heat a hat and gloves hat a must we always hunted in the winter weather then it was very cold we would huddle together in the dark mornings just before first light and then set off the ice would be on the trousers you could here it cracking when you move my God it was freezing then I think some Hunters these days use seats and sit waiting for the deer am I right,Anyway I know this is long but as I said before delighted to be going next Saturday I am like a Child waiting on Santa :D:D:D.

    Cheers.

The most important thing is that you enjoy yourself. It hasn't changed that much in the last few years - still a lot of hard work after a trigger is pulled.

But thats why I invite people to come with me :D

    Hello Jonty.
I know what its like not been cheeky I remember we came upon a Hugh Stag must have been standing at least 6 feet tall he the stag S##t it's self wounder where we came from and how he did not got our sent I at that time been a very young not experienced hunter wanted to shoot him but no was the answer I was to find out later why we shot a Sika about two hours after this we cleaned it out I I was made carry this back down the Mountain through rivers with a blood stained neck on me a Deer head swinging back and fourth by my side and I was F####d by the time we got to the jeep The answer was "And you wanted to shoot that Stag we would have never got him down the Mountain" I learned a lot that day. :D

less noise the better so either wellies that dont squeak or hiking boots thats arent clumsy
clothing should be as sound proof as possible so the wax jacket should be avoided if possible
jackets i try and buy for stalking are either 100% polyester or mole skin (windproof etc are all handy but for just starting off cheap and basic are fine)
these are good as they have a soft feel and dont make noise when rubbed or if a brier grabs them it doesnt make a tearing sound when they catch
ya can get a cheap 100% polyester fleece in pennys of dunnes
trousers again should be mole skin where possible or some other quiet material i have a pair of work pants that work well there brand is tuff stuff and make very little noise

all ya want then is a warm skip cap and a pair of binos if ya have them so ya can do ypur own bit of glassing while walking with him

so if i was you all ya need is a pair of quiet boots or wellies
    quiet trousers
a fleece like mentioned and a few layers underneath t shirt or another fleece make sure the t shirt is long so ya can tuck it in and keep yourself warm as ye might be hiding in wait when it starts to get dark along a forest edge
wooly hat and binos for yourself and a pair of warm gloves

oh by the way your watching to much youtube the only people who sit down waiting for deer are either ameriacn or mainland europeans :)

FWIW,dont wear anything cotton as a base layer. It will absorb sweat and water and will take forever to dry out if you arent moving around thus robbing your body heat and cooling you down.
