Getting a pain in my leg on the bike

I am 39 , and have only really got into cycling in july. Just checked my runkeeper and have logged just under 1000 kms. On reasonably flat road i manage about 28 km per hour, cycling on my own. I did the Tour De Picnic in August.

My problem is the pain I am getting in my left leg (calf). I warm up with stretches before I get on bike, I get about 5 k up the road and then what i think is lactic acid burning for about the next 10- 20k. I stretch in the saddle, pushing my heal down as far as i can while keeping the ball of my foot on the peddle. This seems to help, but not completely alleviate the problem. I often do this every couple of minutes. After about 20-25 k it settles down.

I did 70k today, same problem earlier on, but felt great by the time I got back.

A couple of years back i used to play squash, and the burning in both legs got go bad i wouldnt be able to run in the court. I found If I ran 2-3 k before hand the problem wasnt as bad.

I sometimes get restless leg, while watching telly, on a plane, on bus. Have had this for years, mostly in left leg, sometinmes in the right leg.

Is it a hydration issue, am I pushing too hard, do i need to warm up more.

Just re read post befor putting it up, I look like a right hypercondiac

    Any help apprecated

It might be a good idea to go and get the bike properly set up for yourself, having the right frame size is only the starting point for being comfortable on the bike. A few slight adjustments to handlebars, seatpost, etc can make the world of difference when it comes to bike set up.
A guy i cycle with did this after being constantly uncomfortable on his bike and since then he has gone from strength to strength.

Get thy self to a physio

In before the mods wake up.......

Sounds like it's not specifically bike-related. A sports physio or doctor who knows something of sports medicine would be the best way to go, imo.

Sounds like it is something you need to seek medical advice on. As such advice is not allowed on Boards I have to lock the thread
