hi guys, so first of all i gave up my job and finished last thursday.
i feel abit nervious about going in to the social welfare office as i have never been in before. i have been working in the same job for 5 years but left because my wages were cut and i was working alot of extra hours without being paid for them.
I asume i will be entitled to jobseekers benefit as i would have paid prsi for 5 years.?
Im woundering what happens when i go into the office. Will I be interviewed or do i just need to give my details/forms to an administrater?

Also im just woundering what i need to bring in with me, I have id, p45, p60, proof of adress but i dont have a lease for my rented house, do i need proof of my lease?
Id really appreciate any advice or information. thanks

You may need to make an appointment for a later date when you go in first. They should tell you what forms to fill in and what ID to bring. You may, though, not be entitled to any payment for 9 weeks if you have left your job voluntarily, unless you can prove it was for a very good reason (usually bullying...)

You may get sorted on your first visit but more likely you'll have to come back again

Just approach the reception/front desk and they will give you a time and date to meet an officer

And a form to complete and a checklist for what they need

If you get the appointment same day then better still

You will be asked the reasons you left your last job

Don't be nervous, the staff are just doing their job.

thanks so much for your replies guys, ya i downloaded the form and i have all the paperwork (i think). ya i know i will probably be suspended for 9 weeks which will be tough but i just felt i had to leave my current job as i felt that if i was appling for jobs and if i was called for interviews it would be difficult to take the time off. my wages were also cut by 10% and i was expected to work alot more hours than i was being paid for (10hours extra a week approx), i am aware it is so tough getting work but i just feel i really need a change. but i imagen i will be suspended for the 9 weeks as i left voluntry.:(
