Looking for advice about a Panasonic TV

i just bought the panasonic TX-L39EM5B full hd 39" viera tv for 590 euro.

i just set it up in my house - basically i just put the tv on the stand and plugged in the power and connected the sky tv cable (satalite dish) - turned on the tv and waited for it to auto tune and i was ready to watch tv. I have been watching and listening for a full day - the only thing is i am not impressed at all, am i supposed to do something else to improve the quality ??

the picture quality was not very good - its blurry and the contrasts and visuals were not very good - e.g. - watching the news - it was hard to see the news reader clearly when they zoomed out - faces were very blurry and when they zoomed in the detail was not good and his face was very white (and so is the background if its a light coloured background) - in general it looks like the contrast and brightness are turned up very high, that and the picture is poor quality and blurry. the sound quality is also not good - its similar to the sound you would get out of a laptop

the tv is supposed to replace my 10 year old panasonic TX-28PS1L (the tv that weights a awful lot and the back of the tv stretches back about a meter) which is too bulky for the new location i want to put my tv (i paid 700 euros when i got it in 2002).

comparing the two tvs - the old tv from 2002 seems much better - the sound is better and the picture is better when watching standard difinition tv channels.
i know watching hd channels would be much better but watching standard definition tv on my friends hd tv is much better than this.

the sky tv box i have is just the standard box, its not the HD box but even at that it shouldnt make so much of a difference - its very blurry compared to other flat screen tvs that ive seen with just the standard sky tv box.

    i know

it says in the manual that its 50Hz which I have also read online (panasonic website included) but i also read somewhere that it is 150Hz - it is the TX-L39EM5B - does that make a difference ???

maybe im missing some information though ??? - can anyone help me - is it 50Hz or 150Hz, i know 150Hz is much better - why would a brand new 2012 panasonic tv have 50Hz if it greatly reduced the quality - why does the picture and visuals not look good ??

I've moved your post here from the richersounds forum and given it a thread of its own - this is a more suitable location for general queries, the RS forum is for commercial interraction with Richersounds.

    Hi,
I've been thinking of getting this one and here's a cut and paste from the powercity website:

    Model : TX-L39EM5B
    Specifications
Panasonic Viera 39 Full Hd Led
    150hz 1080p Picture
    Hdmi Digital Av Connection
    Ips Alpha Screen
    Brilliant Contrast
    Sd Card Slot
    Usb Input
    A+ Energy Rating

Slightly worrying that its only 50hz on your one.. Must check that with powercity, will let you know response..

OP, there is no way that the poor picture you describe is down to the TV unless its faulty.

On sound its harder to say. Almost all of the latest thin TVs have poor speakers as there is no room for anything better.

I dunno if my word will help you or not but...i spent so much money on a top of the range plasma smart TV and it hasn't got an update for ages !

I'm checking almost monthly for software updates also for their online portal updates too...none ,zero !
Few months ago they made it open access to th eSDK to develop applications for the portal but nothing major came out !

Also,my model does not have any open interface with outside world that will allow me to use my smart phone or tablet either !

Compared with Samsung,it looks like Pana let me down !!!
Nothing wrong with the size, quality or anything else related to TV !!!

TBH,i am the type of guy that watches TV with a laptop in front of me to run anupdate, patch, check ,tweak and so on...

    mine is def a 50hz,

which i didnt know before buying it - it didnt say anything on the box about hz and i was told it was a great deal (i.e. great panasonic deal coming - the tvs will be in the next day and when they are gone they are defo gone ) so i just assumed it was 150hz or at least 100hz - i didnt think panasonic was even making 50hz in 2012 (why make a 1080p LED 50hz tv)

if i knew it was only 50hz i would have never got it.

currys/pc world have way better quality tvs with lower prices than i paid for my lesser quality tv (6oo euro is way over priced for what i got)

have it about a month now (paid 600euro) - if i could sell it for >400 euro i would do it in the morning (it does have a 5 yr warrenty which adds a bit of value) and buy a 150hz samsung in currys for around the 550 price

on some channels it is very pixely - a very good example is the music channels - lots of the videos look very poor - all blurry and blocky like a very poor quality youtube video, sports as well are not great - my 20 yr old tv was much better.

strange that the picture quality varys so much depending on the program - on some programs the picture quality is good and sometimes its not - even old programs/films can look good but then other programs/films can look very poor even if they are new (i.e. good quality filmed).

who wants to buy it off me 450euro with the 5yr warrenty ??
