Surround sound set up help

    Hi all,

Having some issues with my surround sound....i.e. I can't get it to work :(!
    I have:
    - LG LCD TV (37LG3000): http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-37LG3000-lcd-tv
    - Sony DAV-DZ260 surround sound: http://www.sony.ie/support/en/product/DAV-DZ260
    - Standard UPC box: http://www.hdtvnieuws.nl/images/upc-dvr.png
    - Sony blu ray player: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/blu-ray-disc-player/bdp-s373
    - Xbox 360

What I want is for the surround sound to work with the UPC box, blu ray player and xbox. I can live without the xbox working on the surround sound though. At the moment, the surround sound is working perfectly with the blu player. However, the surround sound only comes out of the front 2 speakers on the surround sound when using the UPC box. Can anybody help on this? While I know it won't be true surround sound as UPC don't broadcast in surround sound on standard channels, how can I get all 5 speakers working with the UPC box? I'm not sure exactly what cable I need.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

From a bit of research today, it looks like I need this: http://www.harveynorman.ie/philips-digital-coax-audio-cable-100-series-1-5-metres.html
Will pick up one tomorrow and hopefully it will make the sound from the UPC box come out of the 5 surround sound speakers

Sounds to me like the UPC box is outputting on Stereo only. Check the audio settings maybe. How do you connect the UPC box to the surround sound?

UPC doesn't output surround sound so it won't work

    That makes no sense!

You know it doesn't support surround sound but you don't know why it won't support surround sound?

It's not just 5 speakers, it's surround, the input needs to have 5.1 capabilities

Not necessarily .... I have stereo outputting to all 5.1 speakers, 2 channels combined split over 5.1 speakers, you need to look at the settings for "sound field" thats what he is looking for not 5.1 channels over 5.1 speakers

Thanks Stephen. That was what I was thinking. Need to do a bit of messing about with my surround sound, but don't think I have the option to change the settings for it :(

Got some advice on how to get this working. Needed to set the system settings to A.F.D MULTI and now the sound is coming out of 4 speakers (front and rear left and right speakers) and also the sub

Its not the UPC box that does this function its the surround sound amp that does the work to output the sound to all speakers
