I hope that this hasnt been done to death already in other treads... tried researching existing threads but got confused.

At the minute have an ancient Grundig sky box. Has the UK EPG on starting 101 - BBC1 etc. Doesn't have any cards of any colour in the front of it - something that has confused me from reading existing threads! Anyways, receives all those UK free channels. Happy enough.

Getting to the point, I'm wondering if I get a modern sky+ box like the Amstrad DRX280 could I use it to record the SD channels like BBC1, CH4 and so on? I know that by default it won't let you. But is there anyway of getting around this at all, even if it involves sourcing cards to put into the sky+ box?

Or maybe should I get something like the Ferguson Ariva for recording?

Unless you need a Sky box for Sky subscription then you would be better served using a different brand which allows recording.
If you get a subscription I am sure Sky will give you a modern new box anyway!

A Humax Foxsat HDR Freesat Receiver <with Hard Drive Recording> (or similar) would be what you want. However you would require a Multi LNB and 2 cables from the Dish to use the full functionality of the Device
    The Skyman
