    Hi,

Could someone point me in the right direction for the best price on the Ariva 250 combo box.

I have seen it on Satellite.ie for €118- in stock and on satsklep for €79 but not in stock currently.

Also, has anyone used satsklep on here and what would be delivery to Ireland? - cant see it on the site.

Any other sites anyone could point me at would be appreciated.

(also on a side note, could someone confirm that the 250 has a combined sat/DTV epg? - i.e. rte channels and sat channels on same EPG page without having to flick over between the two.)

    Thanks.

    List of all suppliers here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=155714

Consider postage costs, in stock, will they load a channel list, do they have a phone number, do they support boards.

No 7 day EPGs at all as far as I know. No series link for recording, probably. Only now and next.

    Thanks for that...

I'm almost certain that these show the saorview channels and sat channels in one epg. Just need someone to confirm.

This is deffo a clincher for me as this box will be used by my in laws... So would like to be able to have all terrestrial channels and sat channels in one epg... Like sky basically, as my in laws couldn't get used to the two separate epgs and flicking from one to the other on the walker combo box which was returned to the shop because of this.

 I thought the fact you could combine satellite & terrestrial epgs was one of the reasons they can't keep up with demand for the 150/250?

OP, you might get better info in this thread.

the answer is no and I have deleted my first post as it told you everything but it looks as if you did not even bother to read it.

and here is the explanation, "The Ariva doesn't display a full 7 day EPG on satellite because all that is transmitted in open DVB-SI format on satellite is 'now and next'. This isn't a "fault" of the receiver, it's because that's what the broadcasters have chosen to do.

The only 7 day EPG for UK FTA sat channels are the ones transmitted by Sky or Freesat and these EPG systems are not transmitted in an open format. In other words you need a proprietary box to get the full epg, a sky box or a freesat box. Then to get the two epgs on a non proprietary box you need a Vu+ uno or a duo or an ultimo or similar. And these cost a lot lot more than a 250.

Finally, rather than starting multiple threads on the Ariva 250, you would be better off posting in the existing thread in Terrestrial here:
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...711036&page=19 " and thanks to apogee.

For "EPG", read "channel list". That's what the OP is interested in, to make things handy for the intended user.

The 7 day thing was brought up by another poster: OP never mentioned it, only wants a single list for satellite & DTT.

EPG = Electronic Programme Guide, or am I mistaken?

Wouldn't that include "now & next" that's available from any digital receiver for UK channels & not just the coveted Sky & Freesat guides?

Hugely misleading & irrelevant to even mention Linux receivers in a thread like this. I would say the best way to qualify a posters definition of EPG would be to ask the question "Do you have or have you ever had Sky tv?".

pat read the op, he knows what he wants but you are confused. here is an image.

Access did say "like Sky basically" in post #4, but probably just in the sense of all channels being in one list. He/she didn't indicate if schedule info beyond "now & next" was required.

Well the op has so many posts I assumed he was on the ball. I dont have a walker so dont know what it entails. We should make the distinction between a channel list and EPG to help others.

You can get a channel list that will show SAORVIEW and SATELLITE in the one list. All one does is move a cursor and press ok.

Here are a few images to explain.

001 is a channel list that shows SAORVIEW AND SATELLITE.

    002. Is the EPG of the SAORVIEW rte1 note it fills the page.

    003. Is the EPG for SATELLITE Sky news only shows now and next.

And they are on the one page. So no swopping.

maybe this is what the op wants.

    The walker involves switching sources.

What the OP wants is all the channels in one list (ie Saorview and Satellite together) which will allow channel change by just using the P+ and P- button if one wishes.

And yes the Ariva 150/250 does this.

The Walker doesnt as it is trying to mimic the freesat 7 day epg which cannot be mixed with Saorview as they are gathering data from 2 different sources and the box would get confused. Linux boxes do much the same but are written differently and require a different level user to older parent family etc.

Only a small fraction of those posts are in the satellite forum. If you make assumptions, you should label them as such.
We should make the distinction between a channel list and EPG to help others.

If it shows what programmes are on & what they're about, even only now & next, then it's a programme guide, simple as that. It doesn't have to be some service provider's proprietary effort.

Thanks for the replys, maybe i should clarify what i mean by me wanting to know if the Ariva 250 shows the saorview channels and sat channels in one epg.

Please excuse my terminology and thanks to Ronnie Raygun... what i was trying to ask about was the channel list - Sorry for saying EPG - i was wanting to know if the Ariva 250 shows a combined Saorview and Sat channel listing and not separate ones that you have to flick between.

Like i said above, its for my in-laws who are well into their sixties and im just trying to get the most user friendly box i can for them with the very few quid i have to spare.

I do know the sat channels will only show now and next and also i know that the saorview channels show a 7 day full listing - that is all fine by me.

Im sorry for the confusion with the terminology i used... can see it nearly started a fight here! :D
In fairness, the lads on the Sat/TV forum here on boards have always been very helpful when i have asked even the most noob of questions... so thanks for that. I also must put my hands up and sorry for not spotting the dedicated Ariva 250 thread... please feel free mods to merge this if needed.

I don't think the 250 shows 7 day full listing on Irish channels. However that's not what you are asking for....I think!, all Saorview approved boxes do.

The 250 does show 7 day epg on Saorview channels.

    Hey,

Wondering if anyone can help me out - so, digital switchover has occurred and now I'm RTE-less but still have the satellite channels on the Ariva 250 combo box. Purchased a suitable aerial to pick up the Irish channels and set it up etc, but nothing happening on the screen.

    Am I doing this right:
Looking at the back of the box the satellite dish is inserted in the top right connector while the aerial is inserted in the bottom right. Have I got that the right way around? (sorry, lost the manual for the box..)

Do I need to scan for the Irish channels as nothing appears on the screen when I switch over on the remote, just keep getting a weak or no signal message...

All help appreciated folks, missing Brian Dobson's big head these days, doesn't look the same when scaled down to the size of an iPhone screen ;)

It's the other way round - aerial top right. Then do an automatic scan.
