Non-Cheesy Band Recommendations

    Hey everyone,

I am getting married on July 27th 2013 and I'm trying to find a good band - but most of the bands we've contacted are not available :( Really annoyed with myself right now as I just missed out on my favourite one by delaying too long.

Basically we are looking for a non-cheesy band that will play in Sligo, with preferably a male vocalist. And who will promise not to play Galway Girl.

The following bands are not available on our date >>

    After Dark
    Late Nite Radio Band
    BeatClub
    The Weightless Astronauts
Hermitage Green (These guys don't do weddings anymore)
    Pyramid
    The Poor Boys
    The Marvels

I would be super grateful for suggestions of more bands like these.

    Thanks!

I was like yourself hate the thought of a cheesy band. I went to see a few of the non-cheesy and singers were not very good at all. Don't let a band website put you off if you think it cheesy crap most will do a rock/alternative set. The Troubadours were brilliant I went to see them live at a pub gig. We booked a few good men(www.afewgoodmenband.com) in the end and they were brilliant. We were running late during the day and held them up from starting for nearly an hour but they still played there full set and he has a really excellent voice and very humble about it. A month on people are still commenting on how good they were and made the night.

do you not want people to dance at your wedding then?

surely cheesy songs get people up to dance.

    Hi Celsy,

I definitely want people to dance - I don't really mean cheesy songs exactly (although Galway Girl and Thunderstruck are on my please don't play these, please, list), but cheesy bands... Like a cheesy song played by a really good band will still be good...

I just would like a band that plays at weddings, rather than a "wedding band".

Like the bands I've listed in my first post all have a really cool sound, apart from the material they play...

We had the Good Guys and they were totally amazing. I was in touch quite a bit with their agent and explained at length the style of music we wanted. They totally got what I was saying and played exactly that kind of style. It was great! None of that cheesy stuff we wanted to avoid. Worked perfect.
The DJ also played a ton of the 90's dance stuff that I'd requested and the lads went totally mad moshing for some of it... til my hubby finally put his foot down and asked the DJ to play "more girl friendly" stuff LOL back to mellower 90's....

we had a band called smokin mojo's who were brilliant. the dance floor was full all night. they are kinda of a rock bank. my sil has just booked them for her wedding.

we had two requests which were not on their set list which they learnt for - 2 stone roses songs (and our first dance song - tiffany)

was at a wedding last week and the goodfellas were the band, tbh i wouldnt rate them at all. the dance floor was empty for a lot of the night and they done a ridiculously long slow set.

i have no patience for these cheesy wedding bands

Me and the wife also had smokin mojo for our wedding back in july. We didnt want the cheesy wedding band either and i spent an age trawling through all the "conventional" wedding bands only for them to be booked up or dissapointing.

Our dance floor was full all night and the lads of smoking mojo were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Everybody commented on how great they were and still are!

We had the Willin Fools and the guys were FANTASTIC. I very very much would advise checking them out. Pm me for their mobile.
Their website does not do them justice. Ask them when they are doing a wedding-gig next and go see them. trust me you won't be disappointed. we had a very mixed crowd at our wedding and they had everyone up dancing.
Good luck! Oh -they were a bit cheaper than other bands who quoted us....

We had a galway based band called More Cowbell www.morecowbell.ie and i cant recommend them enough, they will play more or less anything you want and travelled half-way across the country for our wedding.
