hi when and got the nct test done on car and fail on "side-slip/alignment test it was - 20.0m/km on front axle it should be less 14 so what is wrong is it the tracking but i can t see how when you can go 100km and take you hand off wheel and it will still go in a straight line and i look at the ball joint and there no play in them or the bush:mad:

Doesnt have to go perfectly straight. As you said yourself it can be out by up to 1.4%. No road is straight, level and smooth enough for the car to be able to keep travelling perfectly straight anyway. The road camber will pull you left so you cant really test it properly other than having the tracking spot on and all your joints with no play.

you shall check wheel alignment . in my last nct tester said it is out, so this side - slip is out, .. my car was goin straight also, but i just went to garage, did wheel alignment, .. it was slightly out, after garage car passed nct.

ok i will get the tracking done but i think it will be a waste off money.

But when you get your alignment checked at the tyre centre it is checked with the car when it is stationary. In the NCT the side skip test is carried out on rollers, so surely any worn component that only effects the car when under load will show up when on the rollers, not on the tyre centre alignment kit?

wouldnt nct tester point on failed other components then ? not just wheel alignment only ? they have extensive testing tools, so they'd point failed bush or joint.

or other way to sort it.. is bring car to garage, give nct fail list, say - me know nothing, fix it.

I had a full 4 wheel laser alignment done on my car 1 week before the nct and yet it was failed on side slip. Obviously I went back to the garage and in all fairness they re-tested the alignment free of charge but could find nothing wrong.
So back for the re-test with nothing done to the car and it PASSED! it seems that just paying the re-test fee fixes the problem !!!

And another old thread. And another "NCT is a ripof thread" Yawn.
    In before the lock! :P
I re-read the OP, I think it has some comedy value, but that's all.
I read it three times, but he could be ordering a chinese takeway for all the sense he makes.
The monkey at the typewrite missing Shakespeare by a wide margin.
Friday evening and relaxing, nothing better to do than to post rubbish on nonsensical Zombie threads.
    TFI Friday.

I know the thread is old and OP is probably not here anymore, but his assumiption that fact that car goes in straight line if you take you hands off the wheel for the moment is very wrong.

In most cases of incorrect wheel alignment car will go in straight line anyway.

Pulling to the side is in most cases caused by some loose suspension parts, sticking brake pads, worn tyres, etc...
