Does it really cost me less in Oil If I turn off some rads?

Is it an old wives tale or factual that if I turn off some of the rads in rooms that I'm not using then it will cost less in Oil each year, I'm heating rooms that no one ever uses in the house and to me it's ridiculous.

    TIA

just so long as you keep the doors closed for those rooms.

Thermostatic Radiator valves would be the better long term option.

Are they expensive to be retro fitted?

The valves are €20 to €30, maybe half an hour each to fit them.
But if you're not using the rooms at all, then just turn off the rads (or nearly off, let a little heat through to prevent damp).
