So , today received my clutch kit from micksgarage.
in previous orders packing was exceptionally perfect, i even kept those boxes :P
Now box look like it pulled from warehouse to my home by car.... even my cat found it smell funny .... :pac:

from pictures you can see that box was used before.

    DSC00064.jpg

Clutch itself look a bit weird....

springs look like partly sprayed , and there is some discolorations ...

    DSC00065.jpg

    DSC00067.jpg

there is some metal discoloration .. like high heat. you may see in right side ...

    DSC00068.jpg

    DSC00069.jpg

Clutch pressure plate looks a bit weird, some discolorations... like it was used.. but not really, as ive seen used quiet enough .... more heat caused metal discoloration .. see pictures...

    DSC00070.jpg

    DSC00071.jpg

    DSC00072.jpg

    DSC00073.jpg

also there was no grease in kit for shaft ... would that one would be ok for it also , ill have to clean and grease starter... now startin stick ??

    DSC00074.jpg

When i was changing clutch on punto, kit came from ebay , it was unknown make , but was neat and clean, really looked like new part, now this clutch kit looks not really neat.... would it be counterfeit ??

or exedy clutch kits look like that ???

    Any opinions ?

    Ta

EDIT: spring may twist by hand .. and it move side ways.. ok not freely , .... would it cause rattling ?

It looks like a refurbished kit to me.

The condition of the outer box matters little aside from looking a tad unprofessional. Looks like a new and unused clutch to me. Might have been out of the box for some reason alright but not installed in a car imo.

    thanks.

Packing box was in bits, the box, where clutch was installed, (exedy box) also have damage, but from inside, like somebody was rattling box very much, and pressure plate damaged it from inside.

what you think about those metal heat/discoloration marks on clutch disc and pressure plate ? is that normal ? never seen on even used clutches.

EDIT: also springs look like is painted from one side with white color, and they are moving sideways ... does it suppose to do like that ?

Looks a bit sh1t but can't see it being problematic in use, presume they're turned on a lathe in the factory.

Hi OP. Are there big savings to be made buying a clutch online as opposed to B&M?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭jayok

Does anyone else think that a release bearing has already been used on that pressure plate?? I got a new one from Honda about 3 months ago and the pressure plate looked spotless (no trace of where the release bearing would be)?

May be there's something particular about the make? (tested perhaps)

@OP if you're gonna do a clutch, I'd be 100% sure the replacement was perfect before I'd undertake that effort.

I'd be sending it back. It looks like someone has tried to fit it and it was the wrong clutch kit so returned it.

New parts should look new this does not maybe it was damaged in transit but either way you paid for a new part box and all so you should expect it in perfect condition.

I don't see anything on that pressure plate or disc that would suggest it has been previously fitted to any car. If there were marks from the release bearing, there would also be marks on the face of the pressure plate which would be in contact with the disc. The marks on the pins that look like release bearing contact are merely from the manufacturing process in my opinion.

More importantly, I don't see any marks from where the bolts and spring washers were tightened.

Equally, I don't see any marks close to the centre of the disc caused by being fitted.

OP assuming this is the correct clutch for the car, I'd see no problem in going ahead and fitting it. Next time, perhaps buy a more recognised make.

It looks fine TBH. The marks on the springs and the rear of the pressure plate look like its just from sliding around in the box. Exedy use the same size box for every clutch so smaller ones can slide around a bit and they have been shipped nearly 10,000kms before you get it don't forget.

The discolouration around the release levers of the pressure plate is just from where the metal has been tempered for extra strength where the release bearing presses against.

The weights on the pressure plates are for balancing.

Can you let me know the part number of the clutch kit? We supply Micksgarage with some of their clutches, both Exedy and Sachs, I can have a look at one on Monday and see if it matches the one you have there.

Seriously, did you have to quote all the pictures.

Also, how many clutch kits have to seen?

Since when is Exedy not a "recognised" clutch manufacturer?

Also, he ordered a Sachs kit but wasn't in stock so got sent an Exedy instead. IIRC.

Since when did I say Exedy wasn't a recognised make?

Please take the trouble to read the post, or at least the part you wish to quote.

Have to say I read it the same way. Exedy not being a recognised brand somehow being inferior.

I'd have thought they'd have been a performance manufacturer, maybe I'm wrong?

Well, Exedy wouldn't be in my top 5 of preferred clutch replacement kits, but perhaps thats just a subjective view.

There are more common, and in my opinion better, replacement kits out there.

Anyway, this is not what the thread is about. I'd be more interested to know how the OP got on with the replacement.

Exedy would be a top 5 at least manufacture, for Jap cars they would be right up there. They also produce racing clutches.

Looking at the pictures again, that is a new clutch. All part numbers are there, the clutch disc looks perfect. The whiteness on the springs I have never seen on LUK or Sachs, I will have to look at some Exedy on the shelf on Monday to see if anymore have them.

exedy is pretty popular between car tuners, not sure what quality is for standard cars, assume shall be good.

As i said , i ordered sachs clutch, as i know, it is pretty good for regular cars. ... but unfortunately for me , it was out of stock, and micksgarage substitute it with exedy .. i have mixed feelings about this, if it wouldn't look suspicious, id would be happy enough, but all this hassle make me not happy, as by this time, i had plans finish work on clutch in this weekend.

OldmanMondeo working with clutches, he will look how new set looks, and will let us know hopefully in Monday . Id love to see pictures also.

First chance I had today to get back. That clutch kit is fine. Looks the same as all others. Didn't take pictures, don't want the boss thinking I'm weird, or weirder than I am.
