    Gents
Need a wee bit of help ? I wear perscription glasses but on the bike they are nigh on useless as they fog up when I'm under pressure ! Add in the rain and I am practically looking through a bathroom window

Ive tried everything from shampoo to wiping them with my mit but nowt works !

I happen to see (yeah I know :D) a range of perscription sport glasses in Specsavers recently ranging €145 up to €180..... I dont mind paying as long as they work

Anybody any experience of them or has anybody who wears glasses any recommendations ...?

    Thanks in Advance Lads!

+1 on this question. I broke my spare pair of glasses a couple of weeks ago during some over-exuberant arm-wrestling* in the pub and am in the market for a new set.

    *I won, btw

I wonder would the stuff you put on divers masks or swimming goggles work? I've been meaning to try it but have never got round to it.

Try Optilabs - I have a number of pairs of prescription cycling glasses from them - they are absolutely fine

I would add that I don't like the insert types - a complete pain if they get a bit of sweat or rain on them

Have you considered contacts? I use them under cycling shades. If it's windy and wet it can be difficult with them falling out or your eyes watering. Hence, the cycling shades as well.

As someone who up till very recently was as blind as a bat and had to lookl through a set of bottle tops to make sense of things I have two options for you. I know all to well what you are going through. The worst was the instant fog up when getting on to a bus ar train in miserable weather!

    1. Contact Lenses, brilliant and work perfectly. I used daily disposables and they were very affordable.

    2. Laser surgery, Had mine done 6 months ago and I'm like a new man.

almost 20 years wearing contact lenses, I never had one fall out. I think you need to see you optician about that one, maybe the sizing one the ones you are wearing is not correct for you and you might need a differnt kind.

Yeah, I've only worn mine once on the bike since the St Patrick's Day race - between the wind, rain, rooster tails and so, the shades were getting hard to see through. Took them off, and the right contact started flapping in the wind!

Nah. It only happened once to me when water got into my eyes and then a cross wind did the rest! No problems since then. I use monthly disposables and have no issues other than that one once.

Ive tried contacts before and they didnt really suit me.. Found them a bit of a pain - right enough the technology has moved on a bit now

Perhaps a stoopid question ...but what do prescription sunglasses have that prevent them from fogging up when compared to normal prescription glasses.

Mine only really fog-up when it's wet and I'm stopped at lights. When I get going again and the cold air is flowing over them they are fine. You can use a de-mister (spit works) to reduce the fogging though

I wear regular glasses and find them ok, but not ideal on a cycle.

Elsewhere in boards, I have seen positive mention of a company called zennioptical (link)

On the website, click "Goggles" (not sports) under Type and you will see a range of glasses suitable for use on the bike. I can't see anything with multiple lenses (clear, yellow, tinted, etc) but at these prices, they might be worth a look.

I've seen shaving cream offered as a solution. Never tried it, but. Also occasional washes with toothpaste, which sounds as if it'd grit them up, but who knows.

Have Oakley Transitions prescription lenses myself posted about them in this thread

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80811505

Pricey but I find them brilliant. At one time I would I would have though it madness to pay as much for sunglasses but when you’re actually using them several times a week it's not so bad. Actually what I'm saving in not using daily disposable contacts goes a good way towards paying for them.

Looked in specsavers but they don't really do any proper sports glasses

Got my oakleys in vision express they also had a catalogue with sports and safety glasses. They got in two pairs from it for me to look at they were pretty good and not too dear if you only went for basic clear or tinted lenses around €170-180 I think. If you went for transition, thinner lenses or with anti reflective coating they weren't not that much cheaper than the oakelys though. Actually some of the frames were very similar to the optilabs ones Beasty linked to.

Few online options I found were
    http://www.rxsport.co.uk/
    http://www.theinternetopticians.co.uk/index.php

Would have saved a bit buying online but I got my frames half price as I had bought other glasses as well and preferred to buy local when I could . May buy a pair of normal sunglasses online though next year for driving and for cycling in hotter sunnier weather (obviously not for use in Ireland)

A bit OT but my brother had a rally car and one wet day the blower failed - The windscreen was fogging up that bad that he had to keep wiping it with his hand to keep a bit of vision... In car cam was scary to say the least...!

In service we got some shower gel and wiped it on with a clean cloth across the screen in lines side to side.... ! It worked well and I mustered up some PC fans later on ... The only problem with that was I drove the car home that night and there was an awful glare off the oncoming lights !

It was the navigators suggestion in fairness as he said he used that old trick before his g/f got in the shower;)

Thanks again lads for your help....!

I ordered a set from this crowd last week along with some new ordinary glasses. http://www.zennioptical.com/
Havent got them yet but thought they were worth a go at this price. Only $10 for shipping too.

Went the lenses route myself. Daily disposables. No problems so far. Only issue is that when I wear lenses I need reading glasses even for close up work. So I got a cheap pair of readers from the chemist and I carry them in the saddle pack in case I have to mend something small on the road.
