Ian Wright - Nothing To Something

I didn't see this posted elsewhere, but sorry if it was posted already. This was posted recently on Youtube; it's a documentary about Ian Wright.

It's 27 minutes long, but I think it's worth taking the time to view it. Wright seems to have plenty of detractors (though I have to admit I've always had some admiration for the bloke). This might change one or two minds, though.

Have a look and see what you think.

He's a grown man who was paid hansomly by the bbc to give his analysis on a football match, which he then refused to do, on air, as England were beaten and he was sulking

There's no coming back from that. That sort of childishness takes some beating. Can't stand the guy

The highlight was the clip from highbury at 9:26 when his face just drops when he sees his old teacher.

That was a good watch. What a horrible upbringing he had. I've always thought he comes across as fairly sound and it was the same again in this.

    Always liked Wright.

Pretty remarkable that he was still playing in parks until he was 22 or 23, I don't think we'll see that kind of career path again.

I really enjoyed that. Was never a huge fan of Wright but he worked bloody hard to get where he did. His story when he finally got to a pro club reminds of Roy Keane's. He couldn't believe how lucky he was whereas everyone else took it for granted and were lazy and unprofessional.

His face when he meets his old teacher is brilliant. The only part I wasn't a fan of was his claim that the media were after him and didn't give him credit as a footballer. That's patently bull****.

Sightly different, Smalling was playing semi-professional non league football.

Ian Wright was actually playing sunday league football.

It would be like a lad going from playing with the boards.ie team to playign for crystal palace now.

    What the sweet suffering F**K.

I always love seeing Ian Wright on the tv. In the times when we have fans bashing Hansen/Shearer/Lawro and the likes for their spoon fed ****e(and rightly so), here's a football fan making no apoligies or no attempt to hide his alliegiences and you're giving out?

His team loses and he's so pissed off he doesn't feel that he can pass reasonable comment on the game, that's funking brilliant if you ask me.

Get Ian Wright back on MOTD asap, his honesty is refreshing and he will talk about a game/incidents like we would with our mates.

I can't see why anyone would want to listen to Alan Shearer over that, and I can't see any argument that could change my mind.

    #Bring back Wrighty.

I'm Liverpool fan btw so no hidden agenda.

Right, @1dannydiamond on the tweet machine, the campaign starts here.

I'm deadly serious btw, outside of rte football punditry needs some proper passion, the lads on MOTD have just become bbc robots, not worth listening to.

When was that, don't remember it.

It was a few years ago on the bbc, can't remember I'd it was a qualifier or the world cup. I think that's why they got rid of him.

Well then watch fanzone on skysports, because that's all Ian wright as a pundit is comparable to.

Most people want pundits to be impartial and offer analysis that perhap wouldn't be obvious to the untrained eye. Just because lawro, shearer etc don't offer us this doesn't mean the alternative has to be a grown man likely to either sulk at or dance on the table, dependent upon the result. If that's what you want, read rawk during a Liverpool game, redcafe during a utd one, or watch fanzone

But there's no reference to this anywhere on the web, and in any case Wright wasn't fired by the BBC.

I met Wright at the Parthenon the day after the CL final in 2007. Absolute gent. It was pissing rain and his missus was complaining but he was great, My cousins phone (only camera we had with us) was running out of power and we were trying to get it to take one photo (of me and Wright) . He stood there for ages with his arm around me waiting for the shot, asking did we get it and making sure we didnt need to go again. Then kept chatting , all the while getting filthy looks off the missus. At one stage she muttered to him that we already got a picture with him earlier and he mor eor less told her to shut it that we didnt.

We had been following him for ages , trying to get hol dof a pen to get an autograph. :) He was chatting to everyone al the way round, great banter going on with slaggings and whatnot.

Only saw saw your reply now. Apologies for the daily fascist link

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-373955/Hes-Wright-off.html

The sulk was obviously part of his 'act', but personally, watching a grown man, albeit one with an already childish mentality, act even more like a child, doesn't qualify as decent punditry IMO. Even if he does have the phil Thompson-esq passion

By the same token, why not get delia smith or ant and dec to do the punditry? Passionate but cringe worthy and lacking any sort of intelligent analysis. No different to wright
