    Hey everybody,

    At home stuck on a question hoping some of the more brilliant minds among us could take a gander and help a fellow Padawan out.

    The velocity of a car changes from 5ms^-1 East to 9ms^-1 West in 2.5 seconds. Find the average acceleration of the car.

    My understanding was that you simply use the Equation a = v-u / t

    I.e

    9ms^-1 West- 5ms-^1 East / 2.5 seconds = 1.6ms^-2 West

    a = 1.6ms^-2 West

    The answer in the book is 5.6 ms^-2 West...

    What in the name of Leonardo DiCaprio am I doing wrong here?

    think of east in the positive direction and west is negative, or vice versa
