Anyone registered in UK for VAT?

    Hi,

We are an online retailer and majority of our sales would be into UK consumer market. From my reading we will likely reach the UK threshold for distance sales at some point this year and should register for UK Vat accordingly.

Also from my reading if we don't reach the threshold we can still opt to register for UK Vat and account there accordingly and potentially benefit from lower sales Vat rate.

Just wanted to ask has anyone gone through above process and how have you found it? Given the extra paperwork required is it worth it even if you haven't breached the threshold?

Also how does it work with Irish revenue as in our case if we registered for UK vat we would most likely become a long term reclaimer of VAT in Ireland on a regular basis. Again anyone with any experience of this your feedback is welcome.

For clarity we are an Limited company registered and accounting for Irish Vat at present.

    Thanks

    Harvest
