    Hi,
I've been into a few dealers recently (tried Ford Focus, Fiesta Kia Ceed, Opel Astra,Corsa) looking at 07/08/09 cars.

Ford Focus 1.6 Ti-VCT Zetec looks nice.

A few have said that Ford Focus 1.6 can give trouble.
one said the oil has to be changed every 20,000 miles/km or it can get very messed.
Another said he'd avoid 1.6 models altogether as the engines can give a lot of trouble and go for 1.8
Another said if it had a full service history that it'd be okay.

What are the thoughts on this please?
    Thanks,
    Pa

Its a great engine, the only real bothers it gives is the coil which is cheap enough. Any engine will go to sh!t if not serviced right.

OP are you looking at petrol or diesel models? Your post is a bit confusing.

The 1.6 Ti-vct engine was only every sold in Ghia and Titanium spec in Ireland. The LX and Zetec used the less powerful regular Duratec engine, neither are known for having major problems.

OP, I think you are confusing petrol engines with diesel engines regarding what people say.

Or other people are assuming he means diesel when he says 1.6, because the pertol focus "only" comes in 1.4 for a lotta people! ;-)

The only reason the petrols will give trouble is if they've not been serviced on time, but that's the same with any car. The coils are the only known weak spot, along with frost plugs, but the frost plugs are something like €2 to replace and the coils are relatively inexpensive as well.

The petrol engines are one of the most reliable around.

The diesels are also very reliable provided that they're serviced on time. Insist on a full service history if you're buying the diesel. Oh, and make sure it's been serviced with the correct grade oil as they're quite sensitive to that as well.
