Runs for a week from yesterday - 25% off when you buy 6 or more bottles of wine. They have some big french names, tim adams and others for a tenner (7.50 after discount), plus nero d'avola and others for 6 (4.50 after discount).

Was looking online, thought the following looked interesting: Feuille de vigne Sancerre 10euro (7.50) ; M Lafleur Pouilly fuissee 10euro (7.50); vin de la vallee Vacqueyras 10euro (7.50); valiano chianti classico 10euro (7.50).
    Plus the ones posted above!

Any other recommendations? anything in the really cheapo range drinkable?

The tesco own brand Douro and Touriga Nacional are both down to €7 before the 25% discount.
Both very, very drinkable at €5.25!!

Also I really like the Picinni Chianti Classico Riserva 2006/07 at €8 (6). I reckon it would improve being put away but tastes great now with a bit of air...

I liked the pouilly foussse and the fergus, both a tenner.

I heard the guy in tesco stillorgan recommending (in that price range) a chilean cabsav carminere for 6.00 (4.50 after discount).

Had a bottle of Jean-Claude Fromont Grand Reserve Crozes-Hermitage 2010 with dinner last night. It was one of a selection I got in the sale a few weeks ago.
We liked it so I went down today and lo and behold the 25% off for six deal is on again and that wine is also reduced from €20 to €10. Now, while I do take these big reductions with a handful of salt, this is a very good drinking wine for €7.50.
I'm wondering if I should get another 6?!

    I recommend.;)

I bought a bottle of it to try before committing to buying a box of it and am glad I did as it is the worst Chateauneuf-du-Pape I have ever had. Its rough.

Also bought 2 bottles of Princess Anne Julienas (€10 a bottle) and brought one back and got a refund because again it was yuck.

Mite try some of the others recommended here instead.

It is on their website. The main advert banner on the site cycles through their offers. It ends 11th december.

I bought 6 more bottles yesterday. Offer ends next Tuesday. Now as the wine went up 1 euro a bottle last night I wonder will tesco up their prices from last night?

Bought 6 on Tuesday and was well worth it when you look at the receipt

Forget the name of the rioja I got, but the Tesco selection Barbera ends up being a steal.

Nope, signs up saying that they are holding their prices for the moment - probably until after Christmas.
Anyway the price increase would only be on any new stock - all the stuff they've had on their shelves and in warehouses already has the duty paid on it and shouldn't be effected.

On that note, I went to Classic Drinks, a wholesaler in Cork, this morning to pick up a few cases. They wanted be to believe that everything in their warehouse came out of the bond this morning and was at the new price - I declined to buy!
Seems daft - this duty increase is going to make for hard times for both wholesalers and retailers. Cynically making a quick buck on the changeover will do them no favours. I'm sure some of their more regular customers might get the hump and go elsewhere too.

I seem to remember Faustino 1 being available at 15 or 16 Euro down from 22 or 23 Euro before.

Any recommendations as to the Best Value available ??????????????

    Hello there all.

I'm looking to buy 80 - 100 bottles of wine for a wedding in the new year.
Have any of you any advice on how to approach bulk buying wine?

Here is my dilema. The hotel is looking to charge us 19.50 per bottle including corkage.
Myself and the other half have decided it might be best to just buy our own wine. Corkage works out at 8 euro. In order to make any considerable savings we will have to find decent wine under 11.50euro.

Would bulk buying with tesco be the best bet? Any help would be appreciated. Should have looked into this a lot earlier.

Funny time (at 4.09AM) to start thinkin' 'bout it.

Suggest you get Aussie 'Wolf Blass' Cab Sav and maybe NZ 'Oyster Bay' - both 9 Euro less 25% - that's 6.75 each plus corkage is 14.75.
Saving 475 Euro on 100 bottles.
Get 8 buddies to call into Tesco asap to get a dozen bottles each !

and id have a chat with the hotel re corkage, thats crazy money, 5-8 euro a bottle would be more in line with prices in these times

I posted this in another Thread....

    Thanks for your reply ppl.

Did a bit of research today!

I have being informed the following would be decent wine. All for 8euro. With the 25% off = 6euro.

    Mcg Bl Merlot 75Cl....http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Produc.../?id=253238130

    Mcg Bl Shiraz 75Cl..... http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Produc.../?id=253237874

    Mcg Bl Chardonnay 75Cl... http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Produc.../?id=253238308

    Mcguigan Black Label Pinot Grigio75cl....http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Produc.../?id=259328193

Have you any opinions on these wines?

Although they are displayed at 8euro I have being informed they were 7euro last week. How sure are we that the 1 euro increase has not already being applied at tesco?

    Thanks again for your replies.

We did and they wouldn't budge from 8 euro. I will let them know that I will be bringing in my own while so should be interesting if they reduce there corkage then.

Either way It should turn out cheaper going with a tesco deal.. Unless hotel drop there corkage by more than 5.50euro which is unlikly.

I must have been reading the thread wrong thought you were paying more for corkage, we ended up paying 5 euro a bottle in 2009 , we got them down a bit.
8 euro wouldnt be the end of the world but try get them down another few quid, your going to be spending thousands there and whatever the guests pay so they should be able to know a euro off that.
