Anybody recommend an Installer to set-up a Free to Air Satellite before the 'Switch Over' and how much does it cost?

    Anybody get it done yet?

Do I need to get the free view boxes that you put beside the TV?

You don't need a satellite to receive Saorview. It's a broadcast transmission.

If your TV is not Saorview approved then you will need to purchase a saorview receiver to sit beside the TV.

If you already receive the analogue transmissions and have a pretty good reception in the UHF (not VHF) band you should just need to run the receiver setup and your done. You shouldn't need an installer in this case. If you you can't receive the saorview channels you might need a new aerial or a decent booster and you then might need the services of an installer. I can't recommend any as I set mine up myself. I'm in the Ratoath area with an indoor UHF antenna in the attic and a signal booster at the TV.

A satellite is needed for a different reason. If you want to receive Freesat. No Irish domestic stations are transmitted via Freesat yet.

Just interested in the Freesat and how much the set up costs?

Ah. When you mentioned the switchover I took it to mean the terrestrial analogue broadcast being switched off.

There's plenty of fliers going around, my area anyway, from people offering to don the install. Can't recall the quoted costs upfront (€250 is in my head though) . If you source the equipment yourself you might get a cheaper deal.

You can get good Saorview kits (receiver, satellite+LNB and cabling) for about €150
