    I feel all grown up.

i have to move on from my VW Polo to bigger things. the little lad is getting big for it and we cant fit the baby seat and him the sardine tin that is my Polo.
Add shopping, and the buggy and were goosed.

i have 10-12k to spend. i have VERY little knowledge in cars and wanted to get peoples opinion on what would be best for space, reliability, safety and being all around practical.

i rented a SEAT diesel estate on holiday in spain this year and loved that.

I've been looking at Volvo too, as they seem to be reliable (?)

We have a Volvo S40 as a family car and like it.
Some small things (not a deal breaker though) that some cars will have, others won't (Volvo has these)
    • electric rear window controls so that you can open/close the windows for the kids.
    • rear seat arm rest thingy. We find it handy for the kids to rest their drinks on. And it has a compartment for putting stuff in.
    • 'magazine' holder section behing the front seats. Again good for storing mags etc for the kids.
look at the leg room in the rear. Octiva has loads I think.

I would recommend Kia ceed SW 1.6CRDi, I have a 08 one myself and it has been very reliable and is surprisingly nice to drive, pre face lift models have no Dpf filter if you don't do big miles.

Just make sure its a people car, you dont want to have to replace it when you find three baby seats wont fit. Id go octavia

That was a 2011 car for 10,950 but just spotted the reason why : WATER DAMAGED AND SUBJECT TO INSURANCE PAYOUT.
still think you could get 08/09 in budget

I30 or ceed worth a look. Wheelbase on them is very long, so loads of back seat room.

Nissan Qashqai might be worth having a look at too:

    Or a Seat Altea XL:

The higher roof line of a MPV might make getting the little man in and out of the rear baby seat that bit easier.
