My Mrs just sent me a link to BikeRegister.ie for additional bike security. Looks good to me but I cant see how these guys are funded if you can log your bike for free? Call me skeptical but I dont want to put bike details and location on a website I dont trust? Anyone used them before/now?

    Never heard of them...
    I'm registered on: http://www.bikeshepherd.org/

They even give you a printable certificate for each bike you register, good for insurance purposes.

I also thought the same, i would have thought their were least an administration charge for doing it.

the cost of hosting a few lines of text online are close to nil. I'd imagine it's costing who ever runs it about €10 a year including domain registry.

The website is legit and it's perfectly safe.

Like, seriously, how do you think they are going to scam you with your serial number?

People will fill in the details of their bike along with their address...

You think the owners of the site plan on going around and breaking into peoples houses?

http://www.broadsheet.ie/2012/09/21/how-you-got-the-bike-back/ - story about a guy who got his stolen bike back, thanks in part to bikeregister.ie

I registered my bicycle with them after reading this.

I'm saying it's not unfeasable for a site with little or no reputation. If it were backed by say, a government agency or came with a seal of approval from some authority that a person's private data is safe. Then maybe I would think otherwise. It's a good service no doubt, but I'd wouldn't put more than a City or county in the address field. Heck, they could even hone in on your location via you IP address. A few pictures of your bike and serial number would do the same job as this website.
