Vw Golf mark 4 - central locking issue

    hi All,

Im having a problem with the central locking on my 2002 Golf. When I lock the drivers door only the drivers door or one of the other doors locks (its very random). I manually have to lock the other doors. Always when im unlocking it only 1 or 2 doors unlock. Its quite an annoying problem (different doors).
To unlock the back or passenger doors I have to use the lock/unlock switch in the drivers door (after 5/6 times the doors usually unlock).

Im wondering what the best/cheapest way to solve this problem would be.
Should I buy 3 new locks, could be quite expensive?
Could I disable the central locking altogether? If it was disabled at least I would be able to open the back doors using their handles instead of having to fiddle with the lock/unlock switch inside in the drivers door.

I dont have any fob for the car.

    Any advice would be welcome.

Sounds like a faulty lock in the drivers door. Common enough on the golf. About 120 for a new one plus fitting

Its the same when I try the passenger door, not all doors will lock/unlock. I know the locks on these cars can cause trouble.

Does anyone know how I could disable the central locking completely?

There is a fuse for the cl afaik. Or maybe its only for remote locking. Number 23 I think

Thanks I tried that and was happy enough until I discovered I couldnt operate the fuel lid by pressing the button inside. So looks like I will have to rethink this again.

When I try locking/unlocking from the passenger side 3 doors (including drivers door) consistently lock/unlock. When I try locking/unlocking drivers door different doors lock/unlock (most of time only 2).
Would this point to an issue with the drivers door lock or more than one lock?
