Nice - do people reckon this is worth so much because it's so rare, or because it's his or both?

I assume if you had £2.6 million, you could go to PP, and they'd make you you're own no?

There would be an element of both. I wouldn't be surprised if Patek don't bid on this one themselves.

Just to keep this post current - this Auction is happening today in Geneva

did a bit of digging recently as to the history of that particular watch

    some interesting stuff here

No idea what time it's going under the hammer, but i now think it will go way above the extimate

The article references a "J" on the watch, can anyone enlighten me as to what this is/means?

    Thanks.

My guess is its a reference to the "J" on the dial

Wow. Didn't Clapton also sell a painting recently for huge money. I think it was the highest achieved for an artist still alive.

BTW anyone else going to see him next year. Tickets booked. :D

the painting he sold for £21 million, he paid £2 million for 10 years ago!!

crazy money - crazy also that his watch was only the second most expensive in that sale yesterday!

presume the tickets were cheap/free?? - not like he needs the cash!! :)
