Pretty sure you don't get the fees back nor is the govt.portion refunded to them. Accomadation depends on the lease. If you're on campus the first payment is more than likely non refundable.
You need to talk to someone in the Su AND in your dept before you go ahead with this. They're there to help.

As far as I know if you dropout by the end of october you don't have to pay full fees next year. But I think you still will lose your registration fee.

But are you aware that you most likely can change to another course in ucd that's the same points or lower than what you just got in the leaving cert

I didn't get what I wanted in the cao and Im repeating for my ideal course and the career guidance counsellor told me just do my course till the end of October and see how I find it. Most importantly she said if I hated to go to admissions. They will pretty much do anything to stop someone leaving the college and will allow you a different course.

how do you know about the full fees thing? is there somewhere i could look up to find out for sure?

yeah i know i can change course within the college but i think i just made a mistake with the cao altogether and am thinking now of just taking a year out and re applying next year .

    thanks for the responses

Talk to your career advisor, sometimes it can turn out that you are just having trouble fitting in. In relation to the degree; it isn't the be all and end all. It does not necessarily determine your future career. I do feel that it is essential to have some sort of university degree though, so it might be worth just sticking with it and specialising with a masters.

When my eldest started in UCD, a few of her schoolfriends dropped out early in first year.

I thought that was a terrible thing to happen....

but apparently it meant they could start another course the following year, without having to pay for tuition?

When my eldest dropped out after two years, I figured that the ones who did it earlier might have made the right decision.

I would agree that the OP should discuss it with someone on the college staff - but having a change of mind/heart isn't always a disaster.

There's a date in October that you can drop out before and retain full fees eligibility for next year. There's a date in January that if you drop out by and you get half fees back.

I think the October date has been moved forward the last few years, if you search the forum I'm sure there's a thread from last year.

Here is the info on withdrawing.

From the looks of that, if you withdraw by tomorrow then you'll have free fees again next year and you'll get your Student Contribution fee refunded. Although it does say October 1st is the date, so I'm not sure what happens if you withdraw on October 1st...
Still it may be worth making your mind up sooner rather than later.
