    Hi,

Looking for some advice if anybody has been down this road.

I am looking to buy a car in Germany to Export to Ukraine.

I understand that i will be able to get the VAT back as for it will be exported out of the EU. Do i pay a dealer the price ex VAT or have to claim the VAt back myself?

anybody know of any good independent mechanics (companies) in Germany to check a car over. would the german version of the NCT and a genuine service history and motor check be up to the same standerds as Ireland?

Any help or information would be great.

    Thanks!

You'll only be able to get the VAT back on the car if VAT is actually paid. Not all used cars have VAT payable, even if sold from a dealer, so this is something that you would need to check.

As for getting the car checked over, you could get the "DEKRA Siegel" test. More details at http://www.dekra.de/en/gw-siegel. They have offices all over Germany, so it should be easy enough to find one near a dealership.

I seem to remember Our Man in Havana doing a comprehensive explanation of the export process; might have been an intra EU transfer though.

Yeah, it was inside the EU.

http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/ has a few threads about exporting from Germany. There might be more info there.

BTW, I don't think there is any German equivalent of motorcheck.ie.
