Looking for a 2 night break in a hotel convenient to dundrum shopping centre.
We would be coming from Galway on the motorway .
Hoping to get a 2 night b&b with 1 dinner package for 200 euro or less if possible .
Hotel does not have to be in dundrum just convenient to it and the motorway.
    Thanks

Dundrum really isn't a good spot for hotels, it's mainly residential apart from the shopping centre and some small office & industrial units scattered around the place.

Bewleys in Leopardstown is near the M50 by the next exit (from Dundrum) so would be convenient.

You could also consider the Beacon in Sandyford Ind. Estate. Just off the M50, near the Luas stop and not far at all from DSC.

Ask about charges for overnight parking before booking either hotel. Bewleys says €8, there's nothing on the Beacon website about charges but they almost certainly do charge.

Might be more than you were hoping but take a look at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. It's a 15- 20 minute drive to dundrum but is in a lovely location.

I would give another vote for the Beacon. They do not charge for parking if you park in their hotel parking (have had friends who parked in the hospital and had to pay) They will stamp you ticket when you leave.

It is nice a near the M50, Dundrum and the Luas. They do good packages so it might be worthwhile phoning up.

Just had a quick look on Supervalu website. Their packages meet my needs :D
Would stillorgan park hotel or castle knock country club be relatively close ?
    They both look nice

Stillorgan Park Hotel is fine for your requirements, it's on the N11 (Stillorgan Road) and not too far from Dundrum. In your initial post you described your primary requirement as 'convenient to Dundrum Shopping Centre' in which case I'd say forget the Castleknock Hotel, it's over on the west side and outside the M50, it's a long way from Dundrum.

Stillorgan Park has the advantage (over any of the other hotels mentioned here) that there are excellent bus routes passing the door - the 46A and 145 will take you directly into town for example if you wanted to leave the car and go into town for a play or a show.

Stillorgan Park is under 10mins from Dundrum. Staying in Castleknock would involve a schlep along the M50 - 20mins + perhaps?

Stillorgan's also 5mins from some nice restaurants & the Dart in Blackrock if you fancy some sightseeing.

Blackrock Dart station is 2.1 kms on foot from the Stillorgan Park Hotel, that's a 20 mins walk for most people. Throw in a few minutes for the wait at the traffic lights at the bottom of Mt. Merrion Ave. and you're talking the guts of half an hour. Might as well get the 46A or 145 into St. Stephens Green, far bigger choice of pubs and restaurants.

Applying my Sherlock-like powers of deduction, I'm basing my advice on the presumption that the OP shall traverse the delights of the South County with the assistance of an automobile. Hope I'm right, as I'd say the walk from Galway's a bitch.

    Thanks for all the replies.
Yes we will have a car. Probably chance the Stillorgan Park I think

Bewleys Sandyford is quite good, well convenient anyway.

There is a good Thai restaurant nearby and the Luas is very close so you don't have to drive to either town (20 minutes) or Dundrum (five minutes).

An interesting one has popped up on hotels.com - Radisson Blu St Helen's in Blackrock.. It looks close enough to motorway and looks lovely ? B and B basis so would hope a few nice restaurants in area

It's not in Blackrock - even the Google map they have on the hotel website says it's in Booterstown. There are several bars and restaurants in Blackrock so I can understand why they're claiming to be located there but they're not. I make it 3.2 kms from the hotel to Blackrock village.

The hotel is on the Stillorgan Road (N11) at the junction of Fosters Ave. The vehicle entrance is by the metal footbridge just south of the junction with Fosters Ave. It's a 10 minutes drive from Dundrum SC so problem there but there isn't anything (shops, pubs, restaurants) within walking distance of the hotel so you'd have to drive or bus anywhere. Being beside the N11 you'd be able to get the 46A or 145 into town or the 17 goes to Blackrock and there is a stop right at the entrance to the hotel but the 17 isn't a very frequent service, the last buses back in the evening for example leave Blackrock at 21:15 and 23:15 i.e. there is a gap of two hours with no service.

Take note that getting a bus from the hotel involves a long walk from the front door of the hotel along a gravel path to the pedestrian gate at the N11.

How long do you expect to be in Dundrum for? I mean, it's great and all that, but are you expecting to visit it once or twice during your stay?

Personally, I would recommend the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire. It is a lovely hotel with a good assortment of restaurants on its doorstep, easy access to Town and about a 20 minute drive to Dundrum.

If you get bored of shopping, you have a nice walk aling the front, or the harbour and there is the Sunday farmers market in the People's park as well.

Going to spend the first evening in the hotel assuming we have dinner included . Going to dundrum the following day and will probably spend most of the day there doing the Xmas shopping :D

St Helens is a lovely hotel. I've been there for drinks and meeting people a few times and the reception rooms & bar are great - lovely big old rooms with open fires which are perfect for relaxing after a hard days shopping. It's hard to match that side of things in other hotels around the area. I have never stayed there overnight so I can't comment on the accommodation side of things.

It's a little remote from other local facilities as pointed out above, but the other way to look at it is that it's in a little oasis of calm. The walk to the N11 is described as if it's a trek above, but it's not. No matter which hotel you stay at there will always be a walk to somewhere and the one from the hotel to the N11 is a lot nicer than (for example) walking through an industrial estate to the LUAS. There is a short walking route to Gleesons pub on Booterstown Avenue as well as the DART. UCD is right across the road.

I would certainly consider it for the sort of stay you are thinking of.
