Fender Strat HH + Floyd Rose

    Anyone play one of these?

Always liked these, even the HSS ones were cool back in their day.

I don't play metal, or shred anymore, but grew up trying my best to learn shred on a Charvel, and even now am still fond of locking tremelos. If Charvel/Jackson made guitars without pointy heads, I'd be in like a shot!!

I am aware that Charvel make a HH with a Floyd Rose, but I suppose the strat is a bit more "classic" looking. The blacktop looks sweet enough.

I would be into alternative rock, post rock etc. My main guitar is a Jazzmaster, and I have an Ibanez semi hollow, which I could take or leave, but have it mainly for the humbuckers. It is nice though, don't get me wrong. But I was looking again at replacing it with a HH + floyd rose/kahler type guitar.

Some of the Ibanezes look nice too, not too "metal" looking either.

Should I be looking at anything else around the €500? (I know the blacktop is more than that)

Edit: The Charvel has been discontinued. :(

Just buy a Charvel on ebay and save money in the process. There are lots of them.

Looking for something with a strat type headstock so will check it out. Not many on ebay

There's a Charvel so cal on adverts. Waiting to hear back on one

Anyone played the blacktop HH as opposed to the HSS with floyd rose?

Hardly any of the Charvels on ebay. I'll keep the eyes open. I think I would like something along the lines of a strat HH / Charvel So Cal.

The Charvels from my experience have a thinner neck which is always a winner, though the strat is fine too......

Ebay.com or the vastly inferior ebay.ie?

I was checking ebay Ireland and UK :/

If I come across one, well and good, but I do like the looks of the Fender HH with or without a Floyd Rose. A Floyd Rose wouldn't be a deal breaker, but the blacktop with FR is quite nice. Would probably have to order one though.

I don't go haywire with whammy bars, so maybe the FR would just be redundant... I don't even use the whammy on my Jazzmaster....

    Charvel Model 4 '86 - '89. Should bag one for €400 ish.

You won't get a newer Charvel on eBay, as they are keepers really. Were €622 on Thomann, but when they appear on eBay in a few years, they will be more expensive.

I see lots of them on ebay.com and with international shipping as an option. Look outside the box and be rewarded.

how much would it cost to get a charvel or jackson with a custom fender neck assembled to your specification? guitar workshop perhaps?

gotta be worth the question at least... then you get the best of both worlds....

There's a model 4 on donedeal. First thing I would do is replace the neck. No pointy heads....

You could assemble something with parts very easily and it would have real 1980s hot rod guitar credentials.

I could. I suppose the fact I mentioned the Charvel might give people the impression I want an 80s "rocker" guitar. Not as such. Yes, I do like the strat shape, and a set of humbuckers would be great too! :)

A locking tremelo has its advantages too. I used to have a Charvel with a Kahler bridge. Bought it about 20 years ago, and like a fool, I sold it. I grew to really dislike the pointy head. It was a through neck, so I couldn't replace it. It played really well though. Hence me bringing up Charvel again....

I don't want anything that looks too "rock head", but I hadn't thought about building from parts...........

i only had a look at thomann, didnt look at the jackson website, but i think its hss only, easily remedied with a soldering iron all the same...

Yeah, think they are only HSS. feck it, now I'm confused lol............

That Jackson is sweet. Any advantage over the Charvel for anyone?

Look for the Sambora Strats, there was a few different ones, mex, japan and I assume a custom US one. More classic looking which I think is what you are looking for.

Yeah, leaning slightly towards the classic look. I remember seeing the Sambora years ago, and always admired it on looks alone......
