3rd year flexible semester in China on BTEA?

I'm a 3rd year student in a level 8 course. The 2nd semester of this year is a 'flexible' semester with options such as work placement, study abroad etc. Anyway, I'm on BTEA and I want to go study in China for my flexible semester. Is this ok with the social welfare? Or do they only cover other EU states?? Also the semester in China is from Feb to the end of June. I'm pretty sure the BTEA is for nine months only and since I started in September (Here in Ireland) I might not be covered for June (providing that I'm covered at all). Anyone have any info on this??
